Compensation Range: $64,934 to $81,168/year, based on experience.

Job Objective:

The Music Education and Promotions Director is responsible for developing, promoting, and supporting music education resources and initiatives that enhance The Salvation Army's mission across corps, divisional, and territorial programs. This position will oversee the creation and evaluation of educational resources, coordinate logistics for major territorial music events, and assist with program logistics for Central Music Institute and Resonate Worship Arts Conservatory. Additionally, the Music Education and Promotions Director is responsible for the department's social media and marketing efforts to increase visibility and engagement with Salvation Army music and arts programs. Through these efforts, this role will help strengthen and grow music and creative arts ministries within The Salvation Army USA Central Territory.

Educational Resource Development and Promotion



  • Promote and disseminate resources for vocal, piano, theory, instrumental (brass and percussion), guitar and ukulele in collaboration with the divisional music directors and other Music and Creative Arts Ministries (M&CAM) Department members.
  • Evaluate current music and arts resources, develop performance indicators, and asses their effectiveness in supporting Salvation Army corps, units, and divisions.
  • Partner with internal and external organizations to continue developing or acquiring resources that enhance music and arts ministry in corps, divisions, and music camps.
  • As requested, organize and lead training sessions for corps and divisional leaders on best practices for implementing music and creative arts programs.


Social Media & Marketing



  • Develop and implement marketing strategies to promote the programs, resources and people of the M&CAM Department.
  • Manage and create content for social media platforms, sharing updates, stories, event highlights, promotional materials, and resources.
  • Work with Program Section Marketing team to ensure consistent branding and messaging that aligns with the mission of The Salvation Army and the Territory's communication vision.


Event Planning & Support



  • Oversee the logistics for the Territorial Youth Bands, including registration, scheduling, travel arrangements, and other event coordinating tasks.
  • Assist with Central Music Institute (CMI) and Resonate Worship Arts Conservatory, particularly focusing on the registration process and other organization elements to ensure a smooth camp.
  • Assist in event planning for various other events and conferences.


Responsibilities for ALL Music & Creative Arts Ministries Employees (apart from Administrative Assistant):



  • Assist in the planning and execution of Music & Creative M&CAM events.
  • Serve as guest instructor/visitor for various corps/divisional events and camps as requested.
  • Expected to participate in one or more territorial performing groups, either as a member and/or a leader, as assigned by the Territorial M&CAM Secretary.
  • Support the Territorial M&CAM Secretary in planning, coordinating, and executing projects and tasks.
  • May assist with teaching cadets at the College for Officer Training.
  • May serve on Territorial Headquarters' or departmental boards, councils, commissions, and committees as advised by the Chief Secretary.
  • Collaborate with other Territorial Headquarters departments as requested.
  • Perform other related work as required.



Minimum Qualifications:

The requirements listed below are representative of the minimal education, experience, knowledge, skills, and/or abilities required for this position.

Education: Bachelor's degree (music education preferred) required. Master's degree in related music field preferred

Experience: Minimum of four years teaching. Must be an active Salvation Army Soldier in good standing. Experience with professional music and other performing arts organizations also preferred.

OR: Any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:



  • Must be a self-starter and finisher.
  • High degree of integrity.
  • Knowledge of music pedagogy resources
  • The ability to do one or more of the following at a high level: sing, play a brass band instrument(s), guitar, piano, bass guitar, music composition/arranging/transcribing.
  • Experience in organizing and production of other fine arts programs including.
  • Ability to develop content for social media purposes (written content, experience in Canva, video editing, etc.)
  • Good listening skills.
  • Excellent communication skills required for public speaking and instruction in conference, classroom and rehearsal contexts.
  • Excellent research and organizational skills .
  • Working knowledge of necessary computer programs (Microsoft 365 products).
  • Ability to write and understand English in a manner sufficient for effective communication within The Salvation Army as well as the academic community and general public.

Physical Requirements:

The physical requirements described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the duties of this job. Reasonable accommodation may be provided to enable individuals to perform the essential functions of this job.

Physical requirements include lift and carry up to 50 pounds occasionally, standing, walking and climb stairs, as well as the ability to drive throughout the territory.

Travel:

Must be able to travel by car, air or rail as needed throughout the Central Territory or beyond if directed. Will travel approximately twice monthly.

Working Conditions:

Work is performed in a varied environment which is primarily in the office. But flexibility is required to execute job functions in conference, classroom and camp settings. Full-time position may require some weekend and evening work and longer periods (from 7 to 14 days) for music camps.
