Senior Manufacturing Engineer

We Think BIG about our Engineering team! Our Brad Foote Gearing division is searching for a Manufacturing Engineer to join our team in Cicero, IL. The Manufacturing Engineer will work closely with the production floor to troubleshoot production challenges, assist with workflow through the plant and create routings and work instructions.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS


  • Implementation of projects and systems, build an inclusive culture and processes that meet the needs of all employees and customers, mentor and train employees at all levels of the plant
  • Lead Manufacturing Review to ensure that parts will be manufactured to design and customer specifications
  • Lead Workflow Reviews to ensure the full kit is ready at time of release
  • Develop detailed routings, work instructions and engineering prints for manufacturing gear and gear related products
  • Provide technical leadership and expertise on various engineering / manufacturing projects
  • Communicates proactively, and feels comfortable communicating with management, cross-functional and engineering teams, and has the technical understanding to coordinate the details with the proper team
  • Engage in continuous learning and professional development to maintain current knowledge within the field to meet required compliance and regulatory job requirements
  • Works with the production supervisors while maintaining an employee relationship of trust and confidence
  • Maintains updated knowledge on methods, systems and equipment to continuously improve quality and productivity
  • Work with Sales to ensure accurate quotes
  • Analyze costs, processes, planning and functional controls to ensure continuous improvement to cost, quality and delivery
  • Lead multiple projects interfaces utilizing solid working knowledge of materials, manufacturing techniques and engineering practices.
  • Continuously improve processes, skills, team environment and tools necessary to achieve Brad Foote Gearing product leadership strategy
  • Assist in plant layout of machine tools for product flow and efficiency
  • All other duties as assigned


QUALIFICATIONS

Academic/Experience/Credentials/Certifications


  • BSME or similar degree, or 5 to 10 years as a manufacturing engineer in a machining environment preferred
  • A minimum 10 years of machine shop experience preferred.


Specialized Skills/Knowledge/Ability


  • Develop processes in milling; drilling; tapping; turning; gear cutting; gear grinding; cylindrical grinding and have working knowledge of heat-treating processes
  • Read technical drawings for precision gearing and components
  • Strong knowledge of cutting tool applications is required
  • Proficient in the use of precision measuring gages and product acceptance requirements
  • Strong knowledge of tooling applications and fixtures
  • Proficient in the implementation of lean principles related to machines on the shop floor
  • Proficient in CNC programming


Language Skills:

Ability to read and comprehend documents including technical information. Ability to speak effectively with vendors and as a representative of the Company.

Mathematical Skills:

Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form. Strong ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several variables at the same time.
