We're looking for a full-time, staff Principal Instrumentation and Control Engineer

to join ourDay & Zimmermannteam located in eitherGreenville SC, Charlotte NC, or Remote.

As the Principal Instrumentation & Control Engineer, here's the work you'll do:

As a Principal Instrumentation & Controls Engineer, you will be interfacing with clients and leading a team of Engineers/Designers to develop process control solutions for multiple capital projects and clients, with minimal supervision. Provide front line supervision of assigned team, and may fill in for the Engineering Department Manager, as needed.

Principal Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for all engineering and design activities of individuals on assigned team and for the quality of design and engineering products for assigned projects.
  • Coordinates work with other disciplines, departments, construction, site-based personnel, vendors, subcontractors and the client.
  • Accountable to the Project group for cost and schedule commitments. Prepares and reviews discipline construction cost estimates, as required.
  • Evaluate team members for compliance with established goals/objectives and their contributions in attaining those goals/objectives. Provide coaching and feedback to team members, assist with completing performance reviews, reviewing and approving goals.
  • Establishes and reviews work plans, staffing requirements and schedules for assigned team and project. Establishes staffing requirements based on active and anticipated workloads for assigned team.
  • Reviews and approves all engineering drawings, calculations and specifications for compliance with established procedures, design standards and project requirements. Responsible for technical content and quality of discipline engineering for assigned projects. Reviews project design regularly to ensure compliance with design criteria.

This role is for you if you have these skills:

  • Experience in effective project execution and project procedures; Very knowledgeable on application of instrumentation for process measurement/control in industrial facilities; Ability to develop and evaluate Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS) solutions.
  • Strong organizational skills for multiple projects; Estimating, scheduling, cost control, communications, management of people and ability to lead the completion of projects; Effective Writing and Communication Skills.
  • Estimating, scheduling, cost controls experience; Strong organizational skills for multiple project execution.
  • Basic CAD skills in AutoCAD, Revit and Microstation; Familiarity with the different industry standard DCS & PLC systems; Experience applying industry codes and standards. (NEC, IEEE, NEMA, NFPA, etc.).
  • Experience in effective project execution practices and application of project procedures; Multidiscipline team player with a strong understanding of the interfaces required with other disciplines.

And if you have these qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering Required
  • 12+ Years detail Instrumentation & Control Systems engineering experience, primarily in the Fossil Power industry. Experience in the Chemical, Petro-Chemical, Fibers, Pharma/Bio and/or Food/Beverage industries is a plus.
  • PE Required
  • Ability to successfully pass background screening process.


In compliance with this state's pay transparency laws, the wage range for this role is $136,400 - $204,600. This is not a guarantee of compensation or salary, as final offer amount may vary based on factors including but not limited to experience and geographic location. (The specific programs and options available to an employee may vary depending on date of hire, schedule type, and the applicability of collective bargaining agreements).
