Genetic Counselor - Maternal Fetal Consultants

Description

You will work closely with a medical team including a Maternal Fetal Medicine physician, skilled and experienced sonographers and registered nurse clinical coordinators. We value evidence-based patient care, work/life integration and education. There will be opportunities to elevate the practice through quality improvement projects, protocol development and education. We provide excellence in diagnostic obstetrical ultrasound, fetal diagnosis and treatment planning, genetic counseling and consultation for medical/fetal complications of pregnancy.

This is a temporary part-time position working Monday through Thursday 8:00am - 4:30pm out of our Edina Maternal Fetal Consultants clinic covering a maternity leave (approx. July-October) but looking to start soon to train. There is potential for this to extend to a permanent part time position after completion of maternity leave.

Maternal Fetal Consultants is an operating division of Infinite Health Collaborative (i-Health), a group of local medical practices, owned & led by its physicians, on a mission to give patients more control over their healthcare.

Essential Functions:



  • Provides genetic counseling for patients under the supervision of a physician or in consultation with a physician
  • Provides high quality care in accordance with the National Society of Genetic Counselors and Code of Ethics
  • Counsel patients and families on genetic risk factors, family history
  • Provide genetic counseling services for families and coordinate serum screening, molecular diagnostic testing or carrier detection screening
  • Develop and provide educational services to health professionals and community groups
  • Develop educational materials regarding genetic disease for patients, families, health professionals
  • Ability to interact professionally and respectfully with health team members
  • Demonstrate ability to provide care or service adjusting approaches to reflect developmental level and cultural differences of population served.
  • Provide a vital role in supporting patients through challenging pregnancies
  • Compassionately communicate with patients, family members, and primary obstetrician
  • Serve as expert resource to patients, families and staff
  • Participate in ongoing educational activities
  • Remain flexible and responsive when changes occur in patient activity and workload
  • Any and all other duties as assigned


Education and Experience Requirements:



  • Graduate from an accredited Master's level genetic counseling program
  • American Board of Genetic Counseling or American Boards of Medical Genetics Certificate upon hire
  • Two or more years of Perinatal Genetic Counseling preferred
  • Fulfill the expectations for a Genetic Counselor as outlined by the American Board of Genetic Counseling
  • Licensed as a Genetic Counselor by the Minnesota Board of Medical Practice
