Job Overview
The System Design Engineer's role is to design, validate and deploy technical solutions to maintain, enhance, and evolve the T-Mobile Unified Subscriber Database (USD) Network and Systems. Specific tasks may include the lab validation of designs for the network, applications, data centers, connectivity, validation plans, monitoring systems, reporting systems and engineering tools in support of subscriber provisioning processes. The priority of these designs is to maximize reliability, performance, and efficiency while limiting costs and time to market. Responsibilities may include the evaluation and translation of requirements into lab validation strategies, generation of acceptance test plans, and the oversight and execution of the validation process to ensure design compliance. Development of tools may be required in order to most efficiently solve technical or business challenges including trouble-shooting, finding defects, and completing lab validation more quickly. Technical documentation and presentation skills are required in order to convey project status and lab recommendations to a wide range of audiences. Works on technical assignments that are moderately difficult, requiring judgment in resolving issues or in making recommendations. Works on assignments requiring considerable judgment and initiative. Understands implications of work and makes recommendations for solutions. Normally receives little instruction on daily work, general instructions on newly introduced assignments.
Job Responsibilities:
- Work with a highly qualified team of telecom professionals to validate and introduce cutting-edge technology for use in America's leading telecom network.
- Lead a team of T-Mobile and Nokia engineers to complete lab and FOA validation testing on Nokia Unified Subscriber Database (USD) platforms to enhance T-Mobile's 5G SA Core.
- Perform core network lab planning and coordination to ensure adequate lab environments for simultaneous USD node validation projects as well as ensuring a stable end-to-end lab environment for other test teams.
- Support complex lab trouble-shooting efforts to quickly resolve problems and maintain schedules.
- Identify options to solve complex problems and work with others to obtain concurrence on the recommended solution
- Provide guidance and assistance to less experienced engineers.
- Drives engineering projects by active contribution to the application of engineering techniques; conducting tests and inspections; preparing reports and calculations.
- Creates appropriate validation tests and inspection techniques and effectively documents results.
- Prepare executive summaries of activities and clearly communicate areas of opportunity.
- Review existing tools and processes to highlight more efficient ways to complete existing workload more effectively through industry perspectives.
- Technical Leadership: Collaborates with technical teams and utilizes system expertise to deliver technical solutions.
- Continuously learns and teaches others existing and new technologies.
- Contributes to the development of others through mentoring or in house workshops and learning sessions.
Education and Work Experience:
- Bachelor's Degree Engineering/Computer Science (Required)
- 5 yrs Technical engineering experience. (Required)

- 3G/4G/5G end-to-end wireless communications systems, architecture, call-flows, protocols, interfaces, and infrastructures.
- Subscriber provisioning flows for wireless carrier communication systems using Nokia USD platforms
- Nokia Unified Subscriber Database (USD) solutions such as One-NDS, Shared Data Layer (SDL), Provisioning Gateway (PGW), Nokia Application Publisher (NAP), Real-Time Provisioning Gateway (RTPG), Basic Query Reporter (BQR), Device Query Interface (DQI), Home Subscriber Server (HSS), and Unified Data Management / Authentication Server Function) (UDM/AUSF.
- Interfaces: SOAP XML, REST, JSON
- Protocols: LDAP, DIAMETER, TCP/IP, LDAP, DNS, HTTP
- UNIX, LINUX, OpenStack, Kubernetes
- Linux scripting, Bash scripting
- Database technology, SQL, MongoDB, schema design, data modeling, scalability, security.
- jMeter testing software.
- Vendor management and oversight to ensure validation projects complete with quality and on schedule.
- Hardware and software validation testing and troubleshooting.

Base Pay Range: $92,600 - $167,100
Corporate Bonus Target: 15%

At T-Mobile, employees in regular, non-temporary roles are eligible for an annual bonus or periodic sales incentive or bonus, based on their role. Most Corporate employees are eligible for a year-end bonus based on company and/or individual performance and which is set at a percentage of the employee's eligible earnings in the prior year.
