Title: Temp Casual Library Assistant

Pay rate: $17.13/hour

Work Hours: 14 hours/week, Fridays and Saturdays (job begins 5/23/25 with no end date)

Work Locations: Health Sciences Library and Walter Library (primary location: HSL)

Supervisor: Carmen Elwell

Typical Duties:

  • Act as supervisory presence on Saturdays for both HSL and Walter Library
  • Provide back-up staffing for desks at HSL and Walter Library, as needed
  • Work toward creating a comfortable, welcoming environment for users and co-workers
  • Provide training for HSL student employees at the service desk
  • Assist with onboarding and orientation of new HSL student employees
  • Coordinate workflow of student workers
  • Provide public service that meets and exceeds user needs and expectations
  • Answer and transfer phone calls to appropriate service points or library staff
  • Provide virtual reference services to the university community through LibAnswers
  • Perform on-demand searching for library users
  • Problem-solve issues with library patrons using a sophisticated knowledge of Alma and other library processes and resources
  • Communicate with full-time staff to ensure accurate follow-up on problems that arise
  • Troubleshoot equipment, including scanners and copiers
Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:

  • Problem-solving and communication skills
  • Independent decision-making abilities
  • Excellent customer service skills

Additional Preferred Qualifications:

  • 1 or more years' experience working with library circulation
  • In-depth knowledge of Alma and other library processes and resources
  • Extensive knowledge the University Libraries systems, policies, procedures and referral information for library users
Pay and Benefits

Pay Range: $17.13; depending on education/qualifications/experience.

  • Eligible for Earned Sick and Safe Time
