DESCRIPTION OF WORK

In this position, you will be responsible for planning, organizing, and delegating tasks to team members, as well as preparing and signing off on their performance evaluation reports. You will assess the training requirements of your subordinates and facilitate opportunities for their continued education and skill development. Additionally, you will demonstrate appropriate techniques and methods while holding meetings to communicate any changes in rules, regulations, policies, and standards that affect your team.
You will oversee and actively engage in rescue operations for swimmers in distress, administering first aid, artificial respiration, and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) for individuals of all ages, including adults, infants, and children. When necessary, you will call for additional medical personnel to provide further assistance.
Your responsibilities will also include creating a two-week work schedule for your team, which must receive approval from the Park Manager and be posted at least two weeks in advance. You will have the authority to approve or deny requests for leave, early dismissals, and call-offs, ensuring that any staffing shortages are effectively managed.
Furthermore, you will assess the training needs of lifeguards and either conduct or participate in training sessions focused on lifesaving techniques and water safety practices. This includes ensuring that lifeguard staff renew their certifications in swimming, first aid, CPR, AED, and rescue operations.
You will evaluate employee performance and compile performance reviews, while also monitoring activities at the swimming pool and its surrounding areas, including walkways, restrooms, and changing facilities. Regular inspections of swimming areas will be conducted to identify and rectify any unsafe conditions, ensuring a safe environment for public use.
Remaining vigilant at all times while stationed in the guard chair, you will scan the swimming area for potential issues and be prepared to respond swiftly to assist visitors in emergencies. Recognizing when swimmers are in distress or require help will be crucial, and you will respond appropriately to such situations. All rescues, accidents, or incidents must be reported to the park manager or their designee promptly, and you will also provide assistance to park patrons as needed. Interested in learning more? - Seasonal full-time employment.
- Work hours will be 11:00 AM to 7:00 PM; Work days will vary, employee will work 5 of 7 days per work week, to include weekends, holidays and all shifts as needed
- Overtime occurs frequently at the end of a shift or may be called in early to a shift.
- May be required for travel to off-site training or emergency situations that arise.
- Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
- Two seasons of experience as a Lifeguard (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
- An equivalent combination of experience and training.
Special Requirements:
- All employees must obtain a valid Lifeguard Certification or Lifeguard Management Certification issued by the American Red Cross, YMCA, United States Lifesaving Association, or other authority recognized by the Pennsylvania Department of Health within 14 days of employment.
- All employees must obtain valid certifications in standard first aid and adult, child, and infant CPR within 14 days of employment.
Other Requirements:
- PA residency requirement is currently waived for this title.
- You must be able to perform essential job functions.
Legal Requirements:
- You must pass a background investigation.
- This position falls under the provisions of the Child Protective Services Law.
- Under the Law, a conditional offer of employment will require submission and approval of satisfactory criminal history reports including, but not limited to, PA State Police clearance, PA Child Abuse history clearance, and FBI Fingerprint clearance.
