Moffatt & Nichol specializes in large complex waterfront infrastructure projects and is recognized as one of the worldwide leaders in this field. We are actively looking for a Senior Water Resources Lead to join our Walnut Creek or Oakland office. This position will work with regional and national water leadership to formulate and implement strategies to grow our market share in the stormwater/water resources market. Initial and primary focus will be the Northern California market. This position will assist in developing the PNW and Southern California stormwater/water resources markets as well.

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Lead the growth, innovation, project delivery, and client success for M&N's flood resiliency and stormwater/water resources business lines in the Northern California Market while working as a team with current regional and national water practice leads
  • Collaborate with Southern California stormwater/water resources team to build market share across the state
  • Assist in the corporate wide efforts to grow/add stormwater/water resources market share by integrating efforts with our design studio (Waggonner & Ball) and compound flooding experts
  • Manage/mentor a team of technical practitioners and mid-level "seller-doers"
  • Build on prior client relationships and experience to develop new client relationships/markets for M&N
  • Leverage current M&N client relationships across practice lines to grow stormwater service line
  • Oversee delivery of stormwater/water resources projects of the highest quality for our clients

  • Draw upon the firm's geographic reach and market sector penetration to grow the water practice

Supervisory responsibilities

  • Will be supervising personnel. Expected to grow a team over time.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil, Environmental, or Water Resources engineering; required
  • Master's degree in Civil or Water Resources engineering; preferred
  • Minimum of 20 years of experience in water resources / stormwater management projects; required
  • Professional Engineer (PE) licensure in California or the ability to obtain via reciprocity within 6 months of hire; required
  • Strong client and project delivery experience in the Stormwater/Water Resources market sector; required
  • State/Local Municipal experience preferred
  • Understanding of the regional stormwater/water resources market, including FEMA flood hazard mitigation/funding, conveyance systems, resilience planning, grant funding opportunities, stormwater management as well as other industry trends, drivers, and clients; required
  • Established technical reputation in stormwater/water resources, drainage/surface water, and flood management; required
  • Demonstrated experience of leadership, personal accountability, persistence and being goal-oriented
  • Commitment to internal and external client service
  • Motivational; innovative mindset; excellent leadership and mentoring/teaching skills; collaborative, drives consensus
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal, written, and presentation)
  • Availability and willingness to travel based

Working conditions:

An office environment - meeting clients either at offices or other locations requested by clients. Flexible hybrid work week to be determined by candidate and Business Unit Leader.

Physical requirements:

Majority of work is office based. Some site visits may be required. Travel will be to client or site locations.
