DESCRIPTION:

Independently performs a variety of structural engineering tasks for small projects or selected segments of large projects. Assists with the development of design approaches and concepts. Assists the project team in the production of projects on time, within budget, and consistent with industry standards. This position is ideal for Bridge Engineers who desire to broaden their expertise through projects like bridge replacements, repairs, and inspections. It offers the opportunity to elevate impact by serving a diverse range of clients, such as DOTs, municipalities, and private entities.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:



  1. Leads in bridge inspections, with intentions to develop into Team Leader; if not able to immediate lead, training will be provided and candidate will assist until qualified to lead
  2. Assumes responsible charge for projects within the engineer's control and expertise
  3. Performs specific engineering studies and other design analyses using industry software
  4. Assists senior technical staff in the development of construction documents as well as proposals and presentations to clients
  5. Coordinates with contractors and clients to determine project scope; prepares scope and pricing documents for clients
  6. Attends meetings with owners, clients, and/or contractors
  7. Reviews submittals and drawings from contractors or fabricators
  8. Leads production of bridge repair and replacement plans using LEAP OpenBridge and MicroStation
  9. Assists in the development of design approaches and concepts
  10. Starts evaluating the work of design colleagues and provides feedback and/or corrections
  11. Conducts project job site visits during construction to investigate field conditions and monitor progress based on design specifications and owner expectations; provides field inspectors with technical guidance
  12. Coordinates with local authorities, utilities, and municipalities to incorporate associated construction and government standards
  13. Provides input, feedback, and updates on project schedules and plans work in accordance with the schedule
  14. Assists with the preparation and implementation of the Quality Assurance/Quality Control (QA/QC) plan for projects
  15. Evaluates and recommends solutions to construction related engineering problems
  16. Learns how to maintain client relationships and may participate in business development activities with the current client base
  17. Utilizes and assists less experienced staff in understanding company technical policies and procedures during the execution of projects for clients








              KNOWLEDGE, SKILL, AND ABILITY REQUIREMENTS:
              KNOWLEDGE



              1. Thorough knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (i.e., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook)
              2. Knowledge of engineering theories and methodologies in all construction materials (particular emphasis on steel and concrete)
              3. Knowledge of MicroStation
              4. Thorough knowledge of industry specific software (e.g., OpenBridge, InspectX)
              5. Knowledge of drafting and design procedures, standards, and specifications
              6. Knowledge of applicable codes and regulations
              7. Knowledge of the principles of structural mechanics, analysis, and design


              SKILLS and ABILITIES

              MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:



              1. Bachelor's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering from an ABET accredited college with four years of relevant experience in discipline design and analysis
              2. Engineer in Training (EIT) with 2 years of experience.

              1. Frequently use a computer for several hours at a time
              2. May need to periodically maneuver over, under, and around barriers as well as climb ladders on a job site
              3. Requires the ability to transport equipment or plans weighing up to 30 pounds

              1. Indoors in a normal office environment with some exposure to excessive noise, darkness/poor lighting, fumes, or dust
              2. May travel to and navigate construction sites, some of which may be at high altitudes or small spaces with dirt or dust particles
              3. Minimal overnight travel to attend project meetings and/or training sessions
