Senior Operations Geophysicist
Summary: Seeking a technically strong and motivated geophysicist to interpret Diamondback Energy's Permian Basin seismic data and utilize it in daily oil and gas operations. Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Include but are not limited to:

  • Lead seismic planning team.

  • Work with asset team geologists to tie all available well data to seismic for use in operational planning and execution.

  • Utilize seismic and surrounding well logs to interpret and communicate significant lithologic, stratigraphic, or structural variability along well trajectories.

  • Generate depth prognosis and uncertainty assessments for key surfaces and faults.

  • Identify potential subsurface-related drilling hazards using seismic data and offset well information.

  • Assist in creating pre-drill risk registers and mitigation plans for geological risks.

  • Work with operations geologists to provide detailed structure and potential geohazards for steering horizontal wells.

  • Be available to assist in the placement of high-profile or geologically complex well executions.

  • Develop synthetics and generate velocity models.

  • Collaborate with Asset Geoscientists to align well planning activities with project objectives.

  • Apply knowledge of attribute analysis and inversion (where data quality is sufficient) for subsurface investigations.

  • Negotiate and coordinate acquisition of proprietary seismic data and participate in spec seismic shoots.

  • Work with Land and Legal departments to approve seismic contracts and permit requests.

  • Participate on multi-disciplinary asset teams to generate field development plans.

  • Set realistic goals and provide timely project updates, final interpretations, and recommendations.

Education and Experience

  • Master's degree in Geophysics or Geology (with significant geophysical training).

  • Minimum of five years of oil and gas industry experience.

  • Permian Basin experience preferred; onshore U.S. resource play experience acceptable.

  • Proficiency in Kingdom geophysical software preferred; ability to rapidly learn new software acceptable.
