The incumbent overall duties include designing and performing experiments independently, identifying research pitfalls, supervising junior researchers, managing the laboratory, preparing drafts of manuscripts for publication, actively participate in the preparation of grant applications to help fund the research as well as maintain laboratory protocols including
IRB,
IACUC, and Biosafety.
Our laboratory main line of work involves studying the pathogenesis of autoimmune endocrine diseases, in particular type 1 diabetes (T1D) and thyroid diseases, transplant immunity (
GVHD), inflammatory bowel disease and cancer., with the primary focus on the generation of a murine model regulatory
CAR-T cells for the treatment of steroid refractory acute
GVHD/Inflammatory Bowel Disease, with the intent to develop a future clinical trial in patients with this disorder.
The incumbent's specific duties include production of epitope-specific Chimeric Antigen Receptor (
CAR) T regulatory cells from a mouse model of human disease. Other general duties include cell culture, molecular biology and immunology techniques, quantitative
PCR and protein biochemistry. Furthermore, the incumbent is expected to collaborate with colleagues in other programs such as molecular biology, microbiology, immunology, cancer biology, bioengineering and related disciplines.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities (in order of importance)
1. Working with mouse model of
GVHD/
IBD - 30%
2. Production of epitope-specific
CAR T regulatory cells from a mouse model of human - 30%
3. Profiling the immune cells in peripheral blood and tissues - 25%
4. Assists with writing and preparation of grant applications and manuscripts for publication - 10%
