We are actively looking for a Rail Engineer to join our Dallas office. As part of the Rail Group, the Rail Engineer manages project tasks of rail transportation projects.

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Produces rail design project tasks including geometric design, civil and drainage design
  • Collects field data, documenting and reporting field conditions and findings.
  • Produces 2D concept plans and schematics and confidently communicates rail design options to the project team.
  • Produces 3D rail designs using Civil3D or OpenRail to verify project requirements are met and project is viable
  • Performs first round quality assurance/quality control of other team member's work
  • Performs mentorship of junior team members
  • Assists with completion of field work.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering
  • EIT or FE
    • PE; preferred
  • 4-7+ years of experience in rail/transit engineering
  • MicroStation / GEOPAK or AutoCAD / Civil 3D experience
  • Microsoft Office software experience
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Valid Driver's License and a clean driving record
  • Experience with AREMA, Class 1 railroad, and/or commuter rail/transit agency design criteria and standards
  • All new hires will be required to successfully complete and pass a pre-employment (post offer) background check in compliance with NIST 800-171
  • Moffatt & Nichol uses E-Verify and employment is contingent upon the legal ability to obtain employment in the U.S. and to present the required documentation at hire

Preferred education and experience

  • OpenRoad / OpenRail design software experience preferred
  • Experience working with Class 1 railroads
  • PE license or ability to obtain within 6 months

Working conditions:

This is a hybrid office worker position, with some offsite travel.

Physical requirements:

Sedentary for prolonged period of time, interact with clients, and travel occasionally.

Travel requirements

  • Travel up to 20% of the time; some travel may require overnight stays
