Tool Room Attendant Position Purpose

Responsible for issuing, receiving, and storing hand tools and other facility equipment while maintaining an inventory of all tools and ordering new equipment when needed.

Tool Room Attendant Responsibilities



  • Communicates and supports the Kirby Smith vision and core values of One Mission, One Team, One Plan, One Goal
  • Prepares and maintains periodic inventory of tools and equipment, manually and using computer
  • Receives, unpacks, and stores tools and equipment and requisition stock to replenish inventory
  • Delivers tools or equipment to workers, manually or using a hand truck occasionally
  • Marks and identifies tools and equipment using an identification tag, stamp, or electric marking tool
  • Ensures issued tools are in good working condition and that defective tools are surveyed and disposed of in accordance with established procedures
  • Maintains files and reports of lost, broken, and discarded tools and monitors for accuracy, frequency, and search efforts
  • Maintains and repairs minor deficiencies on shop tools
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned
  • Ensures consistent and reliable on-site attendance


Tool Room Attendant Minimum Qualifications



  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office - Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and various web-based applications
  • Experience with hand tools and maintaining an inventory
  • Customer Service experience preferred


Tool Room Attendant Physical Requirements



  • Pushes/Pulls/Lifts/Carries up to 50 pounds without assistance
  • Physical ability to squat, twist, turn, bend, stoop, climb, and reach overhead
  • Ability to adhere to personal protective equipment (PPE) policy and maintain individual PPE in a functional condition
