HR Assistant
Job Type: Temp-to-Hire (estimated temp duration: 3 months)
Location: Torrance, CA (Onsite)
Job Summary:
The HR Assistant will provide essential support to the Human Resources department, ensuring accurate and efficient processing of payroll, administration of employee benefits, and maintenance of employee records. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of HR principles and practices, excellent organizational skills, and a proven ability to handle sensitive information with confidentiality.
Responsibilities:
Payroll Processing:
* Assist in the preparation and processing of bi-weekly/monthly payroll, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
* Collect and verify employee timekeeping data.
* Process payroll changes, including new hires, terminations, salary adjustments, and deductions.
* Respond to employee inquiries regarding payroll issues.
* Maintain accurate payroll records and reports.
Benefits Administration:
* Assist with the administration of employee benefit programs, including medical, dental, vision, and 401(k).
* Enroll new employees in benefit plans and process benefit changes.
* Respond to employee inquiries regarding benefit plans and eligibility.
* Assist with annual open enrollment process.
* Maintain benefit records and documentation.
Employee Information Management:
* Maintain accurate and up-to-date employee records in HRIS (Human Resources Information System).
* Process new hire paperwork and ensure compliance with all required documentation.
* Update employee information, including address changes, promotions, and terminations.
* Generate HR reports as needed.
* Maintain I-9 records and ensure compliance.
* Assist with onboarding and offboarding procedures.
General HR Support:
* Provide general administrative support to the HR department.
* Assist with special projects as assigned.
* Maintain confidentiality of sensitive employee information.
* Respond to employee inquiries and provide excellent customer service.
* Assist with maintaining compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws.
Qualifications:
Required:
* Strong interest in and/or experience within the field of Human Resources
* Excellent organizational and time management skills.
* Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
* Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information.
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
* Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
Preferred:
* Previous experience in HR roles within the retail industry.
Desired Skills/Knowledge (Bonus):
* Payroll processing and benefits administration experience.
* Experience with HRIS and payroll systems.
* Knowledge of I-9 compliance.
* Bilingual Japanese/English with experience in or understanding of Japanese corporate culture.

The base pay range above represents the low and high end of the base compensation range we reasonably expect to pay for this position. Actual base compensation will vary and may be above or below the range based on various factors including, but not limited to, geographic location, actual experience, and job performance.
