Overview

The Test Facilities Operation, Maintenance and Engineering (TFOME) team at the NASA Glenn Research Center provides engineering and technical services in the aeronautics, space power and propulsion test facilities. We are currently seeking a Cryogenics Subject Matter Expert candidate to aide in the development and refinement of technical specifications which include the identification of critical equipment and components requirements, system interfaces and connections, and gas storage requirements at the NASA Glenn Research Center.



Responsibilities

    Produce products necessary for the development of requirements, specification and recommendation reports applicable to the design, acquisition, installation, and test of liquid helium systems capable of meeting NASA mission needs in support of space propulsion, launch, space-like environmental testing and space science instrument R&D and qualification.
  1. Participate in design reviews, provide input during reviews, and provide a written assessment after each meeting throughout the period of performance.

  2. Ensure the test facility, to be located at NASA GRC-ATF, is designed, and built to allow for effective installation and operation of a helium liquefier.


Qualifications

  1. Subject matter expert with expertise in design, installation, and testing of helium liquefiers/refrigerators and related aspects of the NASA Glenn assigned facility.

  2. Understanding of mechanical test systems involving hydraulics, high vacuum, pneumatics, fluid mechanics, fluid dynamics, aerodynamics, and mechanical design.

  3. General understanding of electronic test systems involving data acquisition, sensors, and signal conditioning.

  4. Requires a Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering (e.g. Mechanical, Aerospace, etc.) or equivalent and twenty-five (25) years of applicable experience.

  5. Proficient in Microsoft Office (e.g., Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) and using computers for daily activity reporting.
