Position Highlights |
The Center for Recruitment and Retention of Mathematics Teachers (CRR) Director is the leader of the CRR, representing the CRR in all efforts, communicating the opportunities, impact, and needs of the CRR. The CRR Director leads and supervises staff, budgets, and the effective implementation of current CRR programs, is responsible for the evaluation and regular reporting of programs, and works closely with CRR staff to find, apply for, and report on funding opportunities. The Director works with the Advisory Board and committees to align the mission, vision, and values of the CRR with current and proposed programs and initiatives. The CRR Director collaborates with University and external stakeholders to reach the goals and objectives of the CRR and its programs, as well as in service to the needs of Arizona mathematics teachers. The Director communicates and collaborates with CRR sponsors and potential sponsors and is part of the CRR Team and, as such, helps in other roles as needed. Note: This is an Academic Year position. Duties & Responsibilities |
Program Development, Coordination, Evaluation, and Reporting:
- Identify the problems and needs of the Arizona education community as it pertains to the CRR mission and vision. As a result of needs analyses, the Director must design and develop programs based on research and utilizing best practices, which are most often unique and innovative approaches developed by the Director and not existing outside of CRR outreach efforts. The Director must collect on-going effectiveness data and use the data to evaluate and refine programs to meet the unique needs of the Arizona education community. This often includes locating, creating and writing, directing, managing, and evaluating grants to gather all CRR funding necessary for the successful implementation of all CRR programs. This position emphasizes the development and coordination of community outreach programs.
Budget and Fundraising:
- Oversee, coordinate, set work standards for, plan, develop, communicate, and oversee the budgets of all CRR programs. The Director partakes in fundraising and manages existing funds to ensure sufficient funding for all programs, staff positions (including the Directors), and service providers.
Center and Staff Leadership:
- Set strategic goals and initiatives, with input from the CRR Advisory Board and partners, for all CRR programs as well as for the CRR as an organization in order to meet the needs of all stakeholders and realize the vision of the CRR. Supervise, evaluate the performance of, develop training for, and oversee training of all staff and service providers, including, but not limited to, the Program Coordinators, Induction Coaches, Professional Development Consultants, AmeriCorps Site Supervisors, IMPACTS Teacher Leaders, IMPACTS Teacher Teams, Tutors (via teaching Math 196A), and Student Workers. This includes setting salaries for each position as well as co-developing and co-evaluating professional growth goals/plans with the employee/service provider.
Communication and Collaboration:
- Communicate and advocate broadly across Southern Arizona, other regions in Arizona, and nationally. Influence local, state, and national decisions as they pertain to the mission and vision of the CRR. Establish and maintain relationships with all stakeholders, including teachers, partnership schools and district leadership, business partnerships, government stakeholders, non-profit stakeholders, and partnerships across the University (across departments and colleges), especially since the CRR programs impact and often inform teacher preparation programs both in the Department of Mathematics as well as multiple College of Education undergraduate and graduate programs (Teachers in Industry, TeachArizona, Early Childhood Education, Elementary Education, AZ Teachers Academy, etc).
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
- Ability to communicate effectively in written and verbal formats.
- Skill in using Microsoft and Google products, especially Microsoft Teams, spreadsheets, Outlook; and Google sheets, slides, and forms.
- Knowledge of FERPA, HIPPA, mandated reporter, and IRB standards and guidelines.
- Strong grasp and understanding of AZ. College and Career Standards for Mathematics, Mathematical Practice Standards, national and state Professional Teaching Standards, and best practices in Mathematics instruction through research and practice.
- Knowledge of recent trends in mathematics education.
- Knowledge of andragogy for educating adults and best practices in professional learning structures and facilitation.
- Deep understanding of PreCalculus, Calculus (I and II), and Statistics content.

Minimum Qualifications |
- Bachelor's degree.
- Minimum of 5 years of secondary teaching experience, including experience leading programs, initiatives, or grants, with at least 2 of those years being managerial experience supervising others.
- Experience with fiscal guidelines and budget requirements as they pertain to educational institutions, programs, and grants.
- IVP level fingerprint clearance card required upon hire.

Preferred Qualifications |
- Master's Degree in mathematics, mathematics education, education, or related area.
- Arizona Teaching Certificate.
