Job Overview

The Chief Carpenter maintains interior building walls, flooring, ceilings, entry doors, fitting room hardware, fixture drawers, and hinges. This role also oversees the upkeep of exterior flatwork, roofs, and roof drains, reporting any issues as needed. The Chief Carpenter performs duties across multiple facilities and supervises daily work projects while ensuring effective communication with engineers, operations, and maintenance staff.

What You Will Do



  • Install, maintain, and repair walls, flooring, ceilings, fixtures, doors, hardware, and laminate surfaces.
  • Perform repairs and preventative maintenance on building interiors as needed.
  • Use the Work Order System to receive and manage repair tasks and preventative maintenance actions.
  • Ensure all systems comply with local building codes.
  • Operate power tools regularly and handle heavy or bulky items while maintaining a safe environment for customers and employees.
  • Read and interpret blueprints and specifications accurately.
  • Work independently without direct daily supervision.
  • Complete tasks efficiently as directed by the supervisor.
  • Maintain regular, dependable attendance and punctuality.
  • Follow established work standards and safety guidelines to perform all duties safely.
  • Assist with all maintenance and repair tasks within assigned facilities, including on-call responsibilities.
  • Supervise and oversee daily work projects.
  • Adhere to all safety procedures to ensure a secure working environment.
  • Foster an environment of acceptance and respect that strengthens relationships, and ensures authentic connections with colleagues, customers, and communities.
  • In addition to the essential duties mentioned above, other duties may be assigned.


Skills You Will Need

Carpentry Expertise - Strong knowledge of carpentry techniques, materials, and tools, including installation and repair of walls, flooring, ceilings, fixtures, doors, hardware, and laminate surfaces.

Facilities Maintenance - Experience in maintaining and repairing building interiors and exteriors, including flatwork, roofs, and drainage systems.

Blueprint Reading & Interpretation - Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical specifications to ensure accurate repairs and installations.

Work Order & Task Management - Proficiency in using a Work Order System to track, prioritize, and complete maintenance requests efficiently.

Safety & Compliance Knowledge - Understanding of local building codes, workplace safety standards, and best practices for operating power tools and handling heavy materials safely.

Project Supervision & Leadership - Capability to supervise and direct daily work projects while collaborating effectively with engineers, operations teams, and maintenance staff.

Problem-Solving & Adaptability - Resourceful in identifying, diagnosing, and resolving maintenance issues while adapting to changing priorities and budget constraints.

Interpersonal & Communication Skills - Ability to effectively communicate with diverse groups, including store management, engineers, and team members, ensuring smooth coordination and project execution.

Time Management & Prioritization - Skilled in managing multiple projects simultaneously, balancing urgent repairs with long-term maintenance plans.

Self-Motivation & Independence - Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while ensuring tasks are completed efficiently and to high standards.

Who You Are



  • Candidates with a High School diploma or equivalent are encouraged to apply.
  • This position requires heavy lifting, constant moving, remaining in a stationary position, and reaching with arms and hands. Involves remaining in a stationary position for at least two consecutive hours, lifting at least 30 lbs. stooping, kneeling, crouching, and climbing ladders. May involve reaching above eye level. Requires close vision, color vision, depth perception, and focus adjustment.
  • Able to work a flexible schedule, including days, evenings, weekends, and holidays, based on department and company needs.
