School-Based Therapist Intern (LPC/LPCC or MFT) (Fall 2025/Spring 2026)

People Incorporated Mental Health Services is seeking an intern to join our School Based Mental Health Services Team for the 2025-2026 school year. The purpose of the position is to provide on the job experience for those pursuing higher education in counseling psychology or marriage and family therapy. The position will have an opportunity to learn about People Incorporated services as well as receive firsthand job experience in their area of study. School-based therapy interns will provide mental health services to a caseload of students attending an elementary school in the Anoka Hennepin School District. They will gain experience in working with children experiencing a range of mental health needs and from varying socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds. They will gain experience in providing individual and family therapy and in completing diagnostic assessments, treatment plans, and clinical documentation. They will also gain experience working as part of an interdisciplinary team.

Internship Duration: Fall 2025 - Spring 2026 (flexible depending on school's schedule)

Schedule: Part-Time, 20 hours a week (approximately 3 days/week, must include Thursdays for consultations). Hours are 8:00am - 4:30pm based off school hours. Schedule flexibility based on program and site need.

Principal Accountabilities/Essential Duties:

* Developing and maintaining therapeutic relationships with children and their caregivers

* Providing direct therapy services, including individual therapy and family therapy

* Completing intakes and Comprehensive Evaluations

* Developing and implementing treatment plans

* Consultation and collaboration with other providers and school teams

* Attending team consultation meetings at least 1x per month

* Effectively interact and exhibit behavior that is consistent with customer service and professional standards established by the organization, division and program.

* Ensure that all daily tasks are completed in a timely manner.

* Attend all required and assigned meetings and trainings.

* Attendance according to schedule as assigned.

* Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Required Qualifications:

  • Currently enrolled in a graduate degree program in counselling and/or marriage and family therapy
  • Preferred experience working with children and families and working in school settings.
