Job Summary

This exciting position begins August 2025.

GateWay Community College seeks applicants for a Residential Acctg/Business Faculty position, to teach a variety of accounting and business-related courses in various modalities (in-person, online, and virtual) to diverse student populations. Instructional areas may include banking, general business, management, human resources, marketing, or entrepreneurship depending on experience and qualifications.

The ideal candidate will have a combination of education and experience to fulfill critical teaching roles as well as the ability to build and expand relationships and partnerships with businesses, universities, and community organizations for the benefit of our students. They will also ensure students are prepared to fulfill the needs of local employers. We are looking for a faculty member with a track record of commitment to service excellence, innovation, assessment, student success, and integrity in the performance of job duties.

Essential Functions
  • Teaches a diverse population of students in a classroom and/or lab setting, online or hybrid, accelerated, and/or other alternative schedules and formats; uses active learning strategies to engage students and promote student learning, retention, and achievement; incorporates instructional technology and employs alternative delivery or scheduling techniques where appropriate
  • Develops instructional materials, learning activities, and curriculum; creates and implements syllabi, course outlines, lecture and lab materials, as well as applied learning activities for assigned courses for students learning computer information systems and related courses; grades student work and activities; effectively utilizes course management software such as Canvas; utilizes college and departmental assessment tools; participates in continuous evaluation and improvement of teaching and learning
  • Maintains office hours to assist, tutor, and advise students to support learning, personal development, and citizenship; works with students outside of the classroom on instructional activities such as student research, clubs, and experiences for students in the community; develops and expands relationships and partnerships with K-12, higher education, industry, and/or community organizations
  • Remains current with new trends and developments in the field through technology, research, reading/studying the literature, attendance at conferences, courses, seminars and/or workshops; develops and enhances knowledge of teaching and learning; participates in college and district activities, including department/division meetings, committees, workshops, and projects
  • Works with the faculty team to evaluate and select classroom materials; may participate in designing customized for-credit curriculum, materials, and activities for corporate clients; contributes to the academic life and mission of the college; demonstrates intercultural competence in interactions with students, staff, and the community; maintains a collegial team approach in collaborating with students, faculty, staff, and the community
  • Other duties as assigned


Minimum Qualifications

A combination of education and/or experience is required to qualify. A faculty may qualify with any of the following:
  • Five years of occupational experience in the field to be taught OR
  • Three years of occupational experience in the field to be taught and a Bachelor's degree or higher OR
  • A Master's degree or higher in the teaching field OR
  • A Master's degree or higher in any field with 18 graduate credits in the teaching field OR


Accepted Disciplines/Subfields:
  • Business Related Fields and Industries, e.g. Accounting, Marketing, Management, Finance, Small Business, Computer IT, Government Agencies, Retail, Insurance.


Desired Qualifications

A. Master's or doctorate level degree in business-related area granted by an accredited college or university. Master's degree or higher in any field with a combination of 18 upper division and/or graduate credits in the teaching field.

B. Bachelor's and/Master's degree in Accounting.

C. At least five (5) years of management-level, relevant experience in business or industry

D.At least five (5) years of teaching experience in various modalities at a community college or university in accounting, management, general business, marketing, human resources, management, and/or business law. Experience should include course development with engaging interactive activities

E. Experience facilitating activities outside the classroom for students such as internships, undergraduate student research, clubs, competitions, tours, service learning, etc.

F. Active member on community advisory boards or current membership(s) in professional associations tied to area of instruction.

G. Professional certifications e.g., a CPA document, a PMP certification, SHRM, Society of Human Resources) certificate. This is not an all-inclusive list of certifications. OR Industry recognized subject matter expert in area to be taught as documented through a portfolio, e.g. marketing campaigns, past audits, projects managed, TQM projects, published works in the field, or letters from clients who received professional services.

Special Working Conditions
  • May be required to travel or be assigned to all GateWay locations
  • May require some evenings or weekends
  • May require prolonged periods of viewing a computer screen
  • May be required to lift or carry up to #25 lbs
  • MCCCD does not sponsor individuals for any type of work visas
