Position description

UCSF Center for Faculty Educators: Educational Research Scientist

The University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) Office of Medical Education and the Department Medicine - General Internal Medicine are seeking a full-time Education Research Scientist to join a team of health professions education researchers.

The Education Research Scientist is pivotal in driving UCSF's mission to advance medical education scholarship nationwide. The scientist will lead/collaborate on research projects with learners and faculty in priority areas of focus for medical education. The researcher will conduct quantitative and qualitative research studies to advance scholarship in medical education related to learning, teaching, learner experience, and the effectiveness of educational interventions, programs, and technologies across the education continuum at UCSF. The scientist will join a team of education research scientists within the Center for Faculty Educators and will report to the Director of Research in Medical Education.

Key responsibilities include:

* Conduct quantitative and qualitative research studies to advance education scholarship and evaluate the effectiveness of educational interventions.

* Lead/collaborate with learners and faculty in priority areas of focus for medical education

* Partner with Health Professions Education Pathway faculty leadership to help plan, deliver, update course sessions and mentor HPE learners.

* Serve as a faculty leader in the UCSF medical student curriculum ambassador program.

* Supervise master and doctoral learners

* Provide direct teaching in the PhD program with UMC Utrecht in Health Professions Education, the Center for Faculty Educator's Teaching Scholars Program (TSP) and conduct workshops on education research

* Participate in local, national and international educational scholarship activities including but not limited to: Center for Faculty Educator's ESCAPE works in progress, OME seed research grants, Center for Faculty Educator's Education Showcase, and committees for national and international organizations.

* This individual will be expected to develop an independent research agenda and contribute to grant writing and proposals to secure intra- or extramural funding to sustain some of their work.

Qualifications:

* Doctorate in education, psychology, sociology, organizational psychology, or applicable fields

* Research expertise: expertise in both qualitative and quantitative methods are preferred but not required. All areas of research interest and expertise are welcome including in quantitative and qualitative analysis. Proficiency in advanced education technologies including simulation, virtual/augmented reality, and artificial intelligence in education are particularly welcome.

* Demonstrated academic productivity with first-author publications in peer-reviewed journals and national presentations.

* Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a team with other researchers, staff colleagues and clinicians.

* Familiarity with database software

* Qualified for appointment at Assistant or Associate Professor Level

Job Location: This is not a remote position.

The posted UC salary scales set the minimum pay determined by rank and step at appointment. See Table 5. The minimum base salary range for this position is $127,000-$197,600. This position includes membership in the health sciences compensation plan which provides for eligibility for additional compensation.

For positions that are 50% effort or less:

See Table 2 for the salary range for this position. A reasonable estimate for this position is $90,700-$141,100.
