In this pivotal role, you'll be at the forefront of applying advanced LiDAR and GIS technologies to optimize vegetation management programs for our utility clients. You'll collaborate with domain experts and management to drive product innovation, scale our workflows, and tackle complex problems with creative solutions. Your expertise will directly contribute to the growth and success of our business unit.

The ideal candidate is comfortable working both independently and as part of a team, supporting data analysis within MicroStation environments, including Bentley's MicroStation while ensuring the final product meets client needs.

Beyond technical proficiency, you'll be a leader and mentor, sharing your knowledge and guiding the technical growth of our team. You'll play a crucial role in clarifying project scopes, fostering strong client relationships, and ensuring seamless project execution.

Responsibilities

    Process, analyze, and interpret LiDAR and GIS datasets to identify vegetation risks to utility assets.
  • Perform advanced classification, segmentation, and extraction of vegetation and infrastructure from LiDAR point clouds.
  • Utilize remote sensing techniques to assess vegetation growth, encroachments, and risk factors, providing critical information for proactive management.
  • Understand and develop scripts and automation tools (Python, SQL, FME) to streamline data processing and enhance efficiency.
  • Integrate GIS and LiDAR workflows with asset management and work-order systems and explore cloud-based GIS platforms for optimal data management.
  • Work closely with utility companies, vegetation management teams, and field crews to provide actionable insights and ensure project success.
  • Assist in scope definition, project planning, and client communication, and provide training and mentorship to junior team members.


Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Geospatial Science, GIS, Remote Sensing, Forestry, Environmental Science, Geography, Civil Engineering, or a related field (required).
  • Master's degree in GIS, Remote Sensing, or a related discipline (a plus, especially for advanced analytics and automation roles).
  • Relevant certifications (GISP, ASPRS Certified LiDAR Technologist, Esri Technical Certifications) are highly valued.
  • Proven expertise in advanced LiDAR analytics, machine learning applications, and geospatial data automation.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience in guiding teams and mentoring junior staff.

Skills:

  • Proficient with: ArcGIS, QGIS, MicroStation, other 3D point cloud modeling software
  • Programming Skills: Python, SQL, R (for automation and geospatial analysis).
  • Remote Sensing Skills: LiDAR classification, machine learning algorithm understanding
  • Understanding of the Utility Industry: Transmission and distribution networks, vegetation compliance standards.
