Position Summary |
The Lead Nurse is a Registered Professional Nurse that provides clinical nursing care and education to eligible patients. The Lead Nurse works closely in an operational management capacity with other nursing staff, the clinician staff, the clinic manager, the clinic lead physician, administrative staff, and patients and their families in providing professional nursing care. |
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies |
* Computer skills to include Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Windows.
* Basic Keyboarding skills.
* Clinical nursing skills appropriate to ambulatory care including immunization administration, medication administration and IV therapy.
* Understanding of age specific, developmental and cultural health needs.
* Competence in nursing practice to include documentation, critical thinking, communication, and privacy/confidentiality.
* Skill to perform and document patient assessments, triage, nursing interventions, education, follow-up care, and patient disposition.
* Ability to coordinate care throughout the visit and in follow-up, including referral to other providers and services.
* Ability to assess learning needs, and provide education that meets the physical, psychological, social, and cultural needs of the patient. |

Clinical Nursing:
- Practices safe, effective and appropriate clinical nursing in accordance with UHC policies and procedures and within the scope of the RN Nurse Practice Act of Georgia.
- Provides culturally sensitive and age-specific nursing care to patients of the University Health Center.
- Demonstrates the ability to administer medications and IV therapy accurately and safely.
- Performs and documents patient assessments, nursing interventions, education, follow up care, treatment, and services.
- Manages patient flow in the clinic.
- Triages patients and identifies appropriate disposition for care.
- Refers patients to providers and coordinates care throughout the visit and in follow-up to other providers and services.
- Updates patient medical registries as needed.
- Supports the work of other clinic team members including scheduling visits, billing, data entry, ordering, and other clinic and Health Center functions.
- Provides patients with needed information about diagnostic procedures, treatments, and charges as indicated.

- Provides clinical direction to other nursing staff including RNs, LPNs, clinic assistants and administrative assistants.
- Collaborates with medical providers in directing patient care and outcomes.
- Supervises daily clinic operations and staff in daily operations to include ordering of supplies, completion of daily/weekly/monthly checklists, staff assignments, completion of nursing orders, and authorization of tickets.
- Resolves patient and family concerns and complaints.
- Communicates with the Clinic Manager effectively and provides feedback to the Clinic Manager related to staff work performance.
- Demonstrates professional presentation in dress, grooming, and work habits.
- Demonstrates commitment to organizational goals and the improvement of patient care.
- Participates in monthly leadership meetings and seeks opportunities for professional development and growth.
