Job Summary

The Staff Research Associate supports an NIH funded project the function of the transcription factor Ikaros in medullary thymic epithelial cells. The SRA will perform laboratory research in immunology and molecular biology, including experiments in cellular immunology that include isolating rare mTECs from the thymus by flow sorting. The SRA must also be able to genotype mice, perform qPCR, and flow cytometry on other immune cell populations. They will be supervised by the Principal Investigator and by an Associate Specialist.

The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.

Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.

The salary range for this position is $26.00 - $31.04 (Hourly Rate).

Department Description

The mission of the UCSF Division of Pediatric Rheumatology is to provide expert quality care to children with rheumatic disorders and unspecified multi-system inflammatory conditions, to train future pediatric rheumatologists for careers in academic medicine, and to advance knowledge through the conduct of research. We offer daily out-patient clinic appointments at UCSF Benioff Children's Hosptial, where patients are cared for by a multidisciplinary team in the subspecialty clinics. The clinical program is highly integrated with a rigorous fellowship training program and a multi-faceted research program.

Required Qualifications


  • BA/BS in microbiology, immunology, molecular biology, biochemistry or a related science and knowledge of, or experience with, the basic techniques or methods required by the position; and/or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Knowledge or previous laboratory experience
  • Ability to genotype mice, perform qPCR, and flow cytometry on other immune cell populations.
  • Knowledge or experience in mTEC isolation
  • Attention to detail and ability to follow experimental protocols
  • Ability to work in a dynamic research environment

Preferred Qualifications


  • Research experience in immunology or a related field
  • Excellent communication skills, including keeping laboratory notebooks
