Position Summary |
This position is responsible for generating gene-edited
P. falciparum. Functional studies on specific genes required for asexual expansion of parasites. Screening small molecule libraries to discover inhibitors of parasite egress. Communicating regularly and in a timely fashion with the PI regarding research and other issues relevant to the operation of the laboratory. Assisting with the daily operations of the laboratory. Assisting with the supervision of the other members of the laboratory. Communicating research data in presentations and papers. Assisting the PI in writing grant proposals. Other duties as assigned. |
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies |
- Skilled in culturing and maintaining Plasmodium falciparum in tissue culture.
- Experience in live imaging of P. falciparum parasites using fluorescence microscopy. S
- killed in molecular genetics and genetic engineering of P. falciparum.
- Able to utilize flow cytometry, biochemistry, and genetics to study the biology of P. falciparum.

Duties/Responsibilities |
- Functional studies on specific genes required for asexual expansion of parasites. The studies include live fluorescence microscopy, immunofluorescence microscopy, studying recombinant protein function, assaying its molecular function, and using mutational analysis to determine the biological role of specific domains in growth of the malaria parasite. Additionally, this position will work to determine how specific genes function in the asexual expansion of Plasmodium parasites using microscopy, biochemistry, and molecular genetic studies.
