Join a Dynamic Team at the Thoracic Oncology Research Collaborative Hub (TORCH) in the Burns laboratory.

Position Overview: The lab of Dr. Burns is seeking highly motivated individual to join his lab as a Research Senior Technician to focus on maintaining colonies, including breeding, and preforming mouse experiments preforming SQ injection of cells, IP injections, oral gavage, and ideally tail vein injections and intracardiac injections. This position will also perform basic molecular techniques, including plasmid preps, gel electrophoresis and potentially western blotting and cell culture. Studies will be conducted through the use of in vitro, ex vivo and in vivo systems as well as with patient samples.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform molecular biology techniques, ex vivo and in vivo (mouse) studies to develop targeted approaches to overcome resistance to targeted therapies in oncogene driven lung cancer and develop targeted approaches for the treatment of brain metastases. With the goal of translating these finding to clinical trials for NSCLC.
  • Maintains animal colony and implements breeding schemas as directed.
  • Support senior staff in molecular biology techniques, ex vivo and in vivo (mouse) studies.
  • Documents, analyzes and interprets data for presentations, manuscripts, grant requirements (current or new), etc.
  • Participates in TORCH lab meetings, journal clubs and other relevant university oncology or immunotherapy meetings.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelors degree in biology, biological sciences, or related field and/or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience in molecular biology techniques and in vivo work with mouse models is required
  • Requires successful completion of a background check; qualified candidates may be asked to complete a pre-employment physical including a drug screen.

Desired Experience (Preferred but not Required):

  • Previous experience working with animals and maintaining colonies.
  • Specifically, 5-6 years experience in cancer biology and/or metabolism preferred.

Commitment and Teamwork:

  • A strong willingness to work in a team environment is essential.
    • Contribute to TORCH with both expertise and insight into development of collaborative projects, improving upon and troubleshooting current projects.
