Job Overview

The Senior Director, Organization Capability fosters a culture of leadership excellence and continuous learning, enabling the organization to adapt and thrive in a competitive business environment. This leader enhances the company's leadership capabilities and strengthens its overall learning culture. In addition to driving leadership development, the role builds critical capabilities essential for executing the company's strategic vision, A Bold New Chapter. Based in New York City at the Herald Square offices, this position operates in a hybrid capacity, requiring in-office presence as needed.

What You Will Do



  • Strategic Leadership: Develop and implement comprehensive leadership development strategies aligned with the company's business objectives. Align the learning and educations programs to the key initiatives with the company's goals and values, and the Macy's Brand Leadership Standard.
  • Leverage Team Based Feedback: Develop critical leadership development strategies from the results of 360-degree feedback.
  • Culture and Inclusion: Lead our equity accelerator programs that are focused on creating an inclusive and diverse workplace culture. Champion initiatives that promote a sense of belonging among all employees.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with our HRLT, the Talent COE, and Sr. Leaders to create a cohesive learning strategy and programs.
  • Data-Driven Decision Making: Use analytics to measure the effectiveness of learning and education initiatives. Continuously refine strategies based on data and feedback.
  • Team Leadership: Provide direction, feedback, goal setting for the members of the team, and overall workflow management. Ensure you have the skills and capabilities on the team to deliver the outcomes for the team you lead.
  • Leadership Development Programs: Design and oversee learning programs that cater to various leadership levels, from emerging leaders to senior executives. Create and manage leadership programs, including workshops, coaching, mentoring, and succession planning. Ensure that these programs effectively build leadership capabilities and prepare high-potential employees for future roles.
  • Learning and Development (L&D) Strategy: Design and implement company-wide learning strategies that foster a continuous learning culture. Integrate innovative learning technologies and methodologies, such as e-learning, blended learning, and mobile learning solutions in partnership with the Sr. Director of Colleague Experience.
  • Assessment and Measurement: Establish metrics to measure the effectiveness of leadership and learning programs. Use data-driven insights to continuously improve programs and demonstrate their impact on organizational performance.
  • Stakeholder Collaboration: Collaborate with senior leadership, HR, and other departments to identify learning needs and develop appropriate solutions. Act as a trusted advisor to executives and managers on leadership and development initiatives.
  • Budget and Resource Management: Manage budgets for leadership development and learning programs. Optimize the use of internal and external resources, including learning platforms and external vendors.
  • Foster an environment of acceptance and respect that strengthens relationships, and ensures authentic connections with colleagues, customers, and communities.
  • In addition to the essential duties mentioned above, other duties may be assigned.


Skills You Will Need

Leadership and Influence: Strong leadership skills with the ability to influence and inspire others at all levels of the organization. Experience in leading cross-functional teams and managing large-scale initiatives.

Strategic Thinking: Ability to think strategically about the organization's leadership and learning needs. Expertise in aligning development programs with long-term goals.

Learning Expertise: Deep understanding of adult learning principles, instructional design, and leadership development best practices. Proficiency in leveraging technology such as Learning Management Systems (LMS) and digital learning tools.

Analytical and Data-Driven: Strong analytical skills to assess the effectiveness of development programs. Ability to use data to inform decision-making and demonstrate ROI on learning initiatives.

Communication Skills: Excellent communication and presentation skills to articulate strategies and influence and convey complex ideas clearly and persuasively.

Collaboration and Relationship Building: Strong people skills to build relationships with executives, managers, and employees. Ability to work collaboratively across functions and influence without direct authority.

Project Management: Proven project management skills to oversee the design, delivery, and evaluation of multiple programs. Ability to manage timelines, resources, and budgets effectively.

Who You Are



  • Candidates with a bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience in a related field are encouraged to apply. 12+ years of experience leading teams in a learning / leadership development environment.
  • Regularly required to sit, talk, hear; use hands/fingers to touch, handle, and feel. Occasionally required to move about the workplace and reach with hands and arms. Requires close vision.
  • Able to work a flexible schedule based on department and company needs.
