Job Title: Jr. Underwriter
Department: Home Loan Center

We are looking for Jr. Underwriter to join our team. The Jr. Underwriter will be responsible for analyzing mortgage loan applications and assessing potential risks based on the provided information. Make recommendations to the Senior Underwriter and/or Operations Manager for loan approval or denial based on the established guidelines and compliance standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the Home Loan Center team in conducting credit analysis, financial spread assessments, and appraisal reviews to evaluate the borrower's capacity to repay the mortgage debt.
  • Review mortgage loan applications for accuracy and completeness, validating that all necessary information and supporting documentation match and are in order.
  • Verify borrower's ownership in refinance transactions and the seller's ownership in purchase transactions. Ensure there are no unpaid liens or judgments, and that they are addressed through the transaction.
  • Support in reviewing appraisals to ensure they meet company guidelines and underwriting requirements.
  • Assist in ensuring that all underwriting decisions are following company policies, procedures, and applicable regulations.
  • Assist in ensuring all documentation within the loan file is complete and satisfactory for credit approval and condition sign-off.
  • Support communication with borrowers, brokers, builders, appraisers, title officers, and escrow officers as needed.

Requirements/Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration or related field or equivalent experience required.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in banking and/or lending preferred.
  • Must be able to work independently without constant supervision.
  • Experience in retail/lending sales and customer service functions is a plus.
  • Working knowledge of computers, related business programs and banking systems.
  • Use of word processing, spreadsheet software applications, core banking process systems, e-mail and on-line banking programs.
  • Good written and oral communication skills; ability to communicate effectively and project a professional image when giving and taking information in writing, in person, and over the phone.
  • Ability to respond effectively to the most sensitive inquiries or client complaints.
  • Present a professional image in dealing with customers, interdepartmental, and external representatives.
  • Accurate typing/keyboarding skills; basic computer skills, including the use of word processing, spreadsheet software applications, core banking process systems, e-mail and on-line banking programs.
