Position Summary |
Performs tasks associated with incoming processing of new acquisitions, including unframing, applying accession numbers, making and applying identification labels, measuring, transcribing signatures, inscriptions, & marks, making condition reports, photographing objects, storing objects in new locations, processing photographs, and entering all pertinent data into the collections management database. Serves as the liaison with the registrar curator of Russian art, serving as the registrar for exhibitions organized by the curator, occasionally handling shipping for incoming related acquisitions or loans, and assisting with preparing objects for viewing by guests and videographers. Assists with student and visitor engagement with collections. |
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies |
- Experience with proper museum art handling.
- Knowledge of basic museum registration methods, especially condition reporting.
- Proficiency with Adobe Photoshop.
- Experience with TMS database preferred.

- Working actively with museum objects from the permanent collection.
- Performs tasks associated with incoming processing of new acquisitions, including unframing, applying accession numbers, making and applying identification labels, measuring, transcribing signatures, inscriptions, and marks, making condition reports, photographing objects, storing objects in new locations.
- Working on digital processing of objects, including taking and uploading photographs and entering all pertinent data into the collections management database. Occasionally facilitating object photography sessions with contracted professional photographer.
- Serving as registrar for in-house exhibitions drawn from the permanent collection, which includes assessing objects' condition, updating objects' exhibition histories and locations in the collection database, and participating in the exhibition production team.
- Groups of objects and exhibitions will be assigned by the Senior Registrar or Associate Registrar.

- Working with the Parker Collection of Russian Art, including processing objects in the collection.
- Tasks will include applying accession numbers, making and applying identification labels, measuring, transcribing signatures, inscriptions, and marks, making condition reports, photographing objects, storing objects in new locations, and creating curatorial files. May also include some cleaning of objects.
- Will accommodate requests for assistance from the curator of Russian art, including making objects available for guests and videographers and assisting with use of the microscope.
- Will perform registrarial duties for related exhibitions, including arranging loans and shipping, communication with lenders and venues, and participation in the exhibition production team.
