Preferred Qualifications |
- Master's degree in a related field
- Professional certification or license in Risk Management and/or Insurance and Claims
- Over 10 years of relevant experience in higher education insurance, claims, and risk management
- Experience working with the state Department of Administrative Services (DOAS)
- High-level, complex project management experience with the ability to collaborate with multiple partners
- Proven track record of managing large, complex projects and programs requiring collaboration with multiple stakeholders
- Five years of supervisory experience in a fast-paced, diverse, and dynamic work environment
- Extensive knowledge in the administration of insurance coverage and claims processing
- Ability to work independently, multi-task, and prioritize assignments and deadlines
- Strong organizational, interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills

The Director plays a crucial role in supporting this mission by providing a supervisory, administrative, and technical approach for all insurance coverages, including auto physical damage, building and contents, fidelity bond, special property/all risk, state tort, general liability, and worker's compensation. This role involves overseeing the comprehensive insurance coverage of UGA's substantial assets and acting as the primary liaison between
UGA and
DOAS.
In addition to managing a team and supervising staff members, the Director ensures seamless campus and statewide technical programs and efficient handling of insurance claims. The Director also oversees and strategizes responses for all
UGA insurance-related claims, monitors the injury reporting system for risk mitigation, and spearheads the department's on-site emergency responses, necessitating 24/7 availability.
A critical aspect of the Director's role involves providing a meticulous, administrative, and technical approach to manage various insurance coverages. The Director contributes significantly to safeguarding UGA's extensive assets by ensuring comprehensive and effective insurance coverage, fostering collaborative relationships with external entities, and leading a team in handling insurance-related programs and emergency responses. |
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies |
This job has advanced expertise and knowledge in the administration of insurance coverage and claims processing; experience that demonstrates knowledge of Georgia State laws regulating insurance and liability; possess excellent oral and written communication skills that include the ability to demonstrate good public/employee relationship skills; be capable of researching and collecting data for reporting purposes; and supervisory experience. Ability to use and operate a personal computer in a Microsoft environment. Valid driver's license. |

- Supervising and providing technical guidance on various insurance coverages (auto physical damage, building and contents, fidelity bond, special property/all risk, state tort, general liability).
