Department Overview: Sentara offers both inpatient and outpatient behavioral health services to patients 18 and older who are in crisis due to mental illness, emotional distress, or destructive behavior patterns. Because our treatment facilities are located within local hospitals, patients have access to the full range of both psychiatric and medical care. This is especially helpful for patients experiencing symptoms that are confusing and impact their physical health. Under the supervision and direction of a licensed therapist (licensed clinical social worker or licensed professional counselor), the Behavioral Health Therapist is responsible for the provision of social work/counseling services to patients receiving care in the inpatient and outpatient setting. Assesses the social, psychological, cultural, environmental, and financial situation, as well as disposition needs, for each assigned patient. Collaborates with patients, families, healthcare team members, and community agencies to develop and implement plans to address identified needs. Evaluates effectiveness of plans and initiates change as needed. Minimum Requirements:

Evaluates effectiveness of plans and initiates change as needed.Two years of experience as a Behavioral Health Therapist is preferred. One year experience in a Behavioral Health Setting preferred. Master's Level Degree in Counseling, Psychology, Social Work or related field. For Masters in Counseling, eligibility to be registered with the State as a resident in counseling is preferred. Preference for certification in Addiction, Screening Brief Intervention and Referral to Treatment (SBIRT), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Trauma, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) etc. De-escalation and physical intervention training within 15 days of hire.
