Job description

Purpose:

Reporting to the VP of HR, the Regional HR Director is responsible for the overall management of human resources functions and business partnerships across the corporate office, two paper mills, and one converting facility. This role aligns HR strategies with business objectives, fosters a high-performance culture, and drives talent management, organizational development, employee relations, talent acquisition, training, compensation and benefits, labor law compliance, and continuous improvement for organizational efficiency and effectiveness. The HR Regional Director will work with corporate and manufacturing senior leaders to implement best practices and enhance organizational performance across multiple locations in alignment with the VP of HR.

Key Accountabilities:

Strategic HR Leadership

  • Collaborate with executive leadership to develop and implement HR strategies that align with business goals for all locations.
  • Provide guidance and expertise on organizational design, employee relations, workforce planning, and performance management.
  • Develop and drive a culture of safety, inclusion, and high performance at all facilities.
  • Provide leadership, mentorship and professional development of direct reporting team members (HR Managers and their respective teams), emphasizing leadership growth and accountability for site-specific HR Operations.
  • Lead HR Managers in executing consistent and aligned strategies across all sites, balancing local operational needs with company-wide goals and initiatives.

Talent Acquisition & Workforce Planning

  • Partner with hiring managers to understand staffing needs, promote diversity, and implement recruitment campaigns to ensure the best possible candidates are chosen based on knowledge, skills, abilities and behaviors.
  • Coordinate workforce planning efforts to address seasonal and production demands in the paper mills and converting facility.
  • Develop succession plans and appropriate workforce planning measures that promote future leadership and development into key positions.
Qualifications

Employee Relations & Labor Relations

  • Along with the legal and labor relations teams, manage employee relations issues, providing guidance to managers and employees on conflict resolution, performance issues, and compliance with company policies.
  • In collaboration with legal and labor relations teams, ensure compliance with union contracts, labor laws, and workplace regulations, particularly at the paper mills and converting facility.
  • Maintain positive union relationships and work with unions to resolve any disputes or concerns that arise.

Performance Management & Employee Development

  • Lead performance management programs across the region to drive productivity, career development, and employee engagement.
  • Partner with the Organizational Development teams (both in BEU and BNA) to oversee the implementation of training and development programs tailored to both corporate and facility-level employees by utilizing succession

Health & Safety Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations, industry safety standards, and all applicable local, state, and federal regulations concerning workplace health and safety.
  • Support and promote safety programs to maintain a safe work environment at all facilities.

Collaboration, Communication & Change Management

  • Serve as a trusted HR advisor to senior leadership at the corporate office and each facility, providing guidance on HR-related decisions.
  • Ensure all HR teams have a deep understanding of strategic HR, but more importantly, a profound understanding of their Business Partner's strategies, operational business metrics, how it operates and tethering this information back to HR to help drive top and bottom-line performance.
  • Facilitate open and transparent communication between management and employees at all locations to maintain strong relationships and trust.
    Promote a positive and inclusive organizational culture across multiple sites.
  • Develop and lead organizational change initiatives to drive business transformation and growth.
  • Create communication strategies to ensure organizational alignment and employee engagement during transitions.
Personal qualities

Required Experience and Education:

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field (Master's degree or HR certification preferred).

  • Experience:
    Minimum 10 years of progressive HR experience, with at least 5 years in a leadership role managing HR across multiple locations or facilities.
  • Experience managing HR teams in manufacturing environments (paper mills, converting facilities, etc.) strongly preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of labor laws, employee relations, and collective bargaining agreements.
  • Demonstrated experience in managing both union and non-union workforces.

Required Skills:

  • Excellent leadership and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and build relationships across all levels of the organization.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills with a focus on operational efficiency.
  • Proven ability to develop and execute HR strategies that align with business objectives.
  • Experience with HR software and systems, and data-driven decision-making.
  • Exceptional communication, presentation, and negotiation skills.

Work Environment:

  • This role requires travel to the paper mills and converting facility, with occasional overnight stays, depending on business needs.
  • Some international travel as needed.
  • The position will involve both office-based work at the corporate headquarters and site visits to manufacturing facilities.
