Job Summary

This position is responsible for assessing priorities and using telephone soft skills to handle high priority and urgent patient matters. Responsible for performance of special functions and projects as they are assigned by the supervisor. Displays outstanding interpersonal skills, excellent customer service skills, in all interactions with stakeholders: physicians, staff, vendors, patients, and visitors.

Position requires the ability to work varied hours when needed.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications - For full consideration, applicants are encouraged to upload license and/or certification if required of the position

  • Experience answering multi-line phones
  • Experience and knowledge, using two-way radio and proper radio etiquette.
  • Experience in a call center or similar high call volume type environment or in person in a clear, mature, cooperative, informative, and diplomatic manner with staff, physicians, executives, and general public.
  • Experience with communicating via telephone and in person in a clear, mature, cooperative, informative, and diplomatic manner with staff, physicians, executives, and general public.
  • Demonstrated high-level customer service, communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Typing skills sufficient to use computer keyboard for timely and accurate input and production
  • Ability to follow oral and written direction and instructions which are presented in a variety of formats.
  • Ability to pay strict attention to detail.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Computer experience and skills to use keyboard to access data, perform basic troubleshooting, and etc.

Department Overview

Operator Services is part of the Plant Operations & Maintenance (PO&M) Department who has the responsibility to maintain UCDH buildings, utilities, and grounds at the UC Davis Health. The PO&M Department consists of approximately 150 staff members providing support to operations and maintenance of the hospital, clinical, medical education, research and administration buildings and grounds that includes 148 acres and structures that total 4 million GMSF.

The Operator Services Unit receives approximately 70,000 incoming calls a month from patients, staff, and visitors. Receives and communicates accordingly Hospital Emergency Codes which include, but not limited to: Blue, Red, White Green, Rainbow, and Elopement adhering to UC Davis Health Policies and Procedures. Monitors and dispatches appropriate personnel to various alarms such as med-gas, elevator, and emergency generator. Dispatches PO&M skilled craft mechanics to appropriate locations in accordance with customer requests and emergent issues using 800 MHz radio, telephone, pager, cell phone and or text message communications. Receives afterhours patient calls for medical advice and pages to physician on call. Possess excellent customer service skills will providing clear and concise communications with department managers, employees, and Health System staff at all levels.

Work Environment

UC Davis is a smoke and tobacco free campus effective January 1, 2014. Smoking, the use of smokeless tobacco products, and the use of unregulated nicotine products (e-cigarettes) will be strictly prohibited on any UC Davis owned or leased property, indoors and outdoors, including parking lots and residential space.

Must be available (flexible) to work variable shifts, days, overtime, and/or additional hours (holidays and weekends included) for a 24 hour per day, 7 day per week operation. Must be able to work in a very structured environment, with a shared work area where you are required to stay at your work station while performing the functions and tasks of the position. Available to go through a minimum of a four (4) week training program. Requires strong customer service, telephone and interpersonal skills. Must have experience in a call center /high call volume type environment. Must have reliable transportation.
