The Supervisor/Corporate Accounting oversees at least one of the following functions in the Controller's area of Southwest Gas Corporation (SWG): Accounting Control, External Financial Reporting, Gas and Regulatory Accounting, Contract Audit, General Accounting, Internal Financial Reporting, and Property Accounting.

POSITION DIMENSIONS

Reporting directly to this position are exempt and non-exempt support staff personnel. The incumbent infrequently exchanges information with senior management and frequently exchanges information with department heads and professional level personnel within and outside the Controller's area, outside vendors, consultants and suppliers.

QUALIFICATIONS

There are clear precedents and practices that the incumbent uses as guidelines to determine how this job is performed. This position requires five to seven years of relevant work experience and a bachelor's degree in Accounting from an accredited university.

Certified Public Accountant (CPA) is preferred. Utility industry experience preferred.

ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

* Provide supervisory direction and expert-level technical participation in the development and maintenance of records necessary to accurately and efficiently provide management with information on all financial aspects of the Company for one or more functional accounting areas while ensuring compliance with all corporate standard practices as well as contractual, legal and reporting requirements (e.g., contract terms, tariff provisions, state laws, Internal Revenue Service (IRS) regulations, Securities Exchange Commission (SEC) regulations, Sarbanes Oxley (SOX) requirements, U.S. Treasury, banking institutions, etc.)

* Oversee the preparation of and review financial statements, reports, regulatory filings and various supporting schedules for internal and external reporting purposes, maintaining compliance with all Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) requirements and regulations

* Oversee accounting and financial research, analysis and work assignments in compliance with all corporate standard practices as well as contractual and legal requirements and regulations

* Oversee the recordation, analysis and reporting of gas costs and volumes, regulatory account transactions and the evaluation of unique transactions and regulatory requirements.

* Review and approve various general ledger, bank, supplier and large customer account reconciliations; monthly journal entries

* Provide accounting expertise during the design and implementation of accounting-related systems and software applications

* Identify, research, analyze and report on all regulatory issues and/or changes which have an accounting impact

* Prepare Company quarterly and annual reports and SEC filings, including supporting documentation

* Develop, implement, maintain and review complex analytical models and system-based macros to be used in accounting and finance applications

* Prepare responses to data requests from regulatory commissions and external parties

* Provide the accounting expertise needed for regulatory proceedings and testify when necessary

* Direct, motivate, train and evaluate staff members; directly participate in hiring process of new employees

* Perform related duties and responsibilities as assigned

* Regular and predictable attendance is a condition of employment and is an essential function of the job

SALARY DETAILS:

Las Vegas: $105,800 - $158,700
