Department: Commercial, Institutional & Architects (CIA)

Reporting Relationship: Senior Lighting Designer, CIA

POSITION OVERVIEW & RESPONSIBILITIES

The Lighting Designer I will contribute to the successful execution of projects by providing technical support and assisting in design processes. This role will focus on developing lighting design skills while working under the guidance of senior team members.

Specific responsibilities will include, but not be limited to, the following:

  • Assist in designing light fixture selections and layouts, lighting controls, and energy efficiency compliance documentation.
  • Support the preparation of lighting design documents and equipment specifications in accordance with industry standards and codes (e.g., IES Standards, NFPA 70, ASHRAE, IECC).
  • Contribute to the design of interior, exterior, and landscape lighting systems.
  • Assist in developing project estimates and schedules.
  • Collaborate with team members and other disciplines to ensure project success.
  • Participate in the business development process by contributing to proposal preparation.
  • Designs one or more of the following: light fixture selections and layouts, lighting controls design, layout, sequence and specifications, energy efficiency compliance documentation.
  • Prepares lighting design documents and equipment specifications to meet contracted scope of work and to ensure application of Lighting Design Principles (e.g. IES Standards, NFPA 70, ASHRAE, IECC codes, etc.).

QUALIFICATIONS

Required

  • Bachelors' degree in Architectural Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Architecture, or Interior Design.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in lighting design or related field.
  • Lighting design experience across a variety of commercial buildings (government, office, schools).
  • Demonstrated proficiency in energy efficient design in their core discipline.
  • Knowledge of Codes (e.g. NEC, NFPA, IBC, Life Safety Code, etc.).
  • Proficient in REVIT, AutoCAD, AGI, Bluebeam, and Microsoft Office.
  • Basic understanding of Architectural, Electrical, Civil and Structural Engineering construction practices.
  • Excellent communication skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.

Preferred

  • Pursuing LC Certification by the NCQLP.
  • IALD Professional and/or LEED Certification highly preferred.

Working Conditions

  • Some work locations will feature the tough terrain typical of construction sites.

Salary Range: $28.00 - $35.00 per hour. The final agreed upon compensation is based on individual qualifications, experience, work location, and education. This position is eligible for an annual bonus.
