Physician Assistant - Orthopedic Hand Surgery

MaineHealth Orthopedics and Sports Medicine inSouth Portland, Maineis recruiting an APP (Advanced Practice Provider)to join our fast-paced Orthopedic Hand Surgery and Sports Medicine team. This position will work with our new hand surgeon in both an OR and clinic setting.

Under physician supervision, the successful candidate will provide medical care through evaluation and treatment in the ambulatory setting. This positionwill support the daily needs of the existing surgical hand team consisting of 2 Physicians and a Physicians Assistant. This position will also provide call coverage as part of the shared hand call model. The successful candidate will have the ability to work closely and as a liaison with surgical and non-surgical physicians in the management of existing patients for continuity of care. Orthopedic, hand, and surgical experience is preferred. These duties are performed in accordance with established standards and practices as defined by Maine Medical Center, the State of Maine, and the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA).

Minimum Qualifications:

• Successful completion of an accredited Physician Assistant program.
• Current license issued by the State of Maine or eligible for licensure.
• NCCPA certification.
• Current BLS certification required.
• Knowledge of advanced practice of nursing, professional nursing theory, practices and regulations related to evaluating and providing patient care, and professional ethics related to the delivery of nursing care.
• Knowledge of patient assessment techniques including medical histories, performing evaluations and wellness diagnosis
• Ability to educate patients, families, and staff in user-friendly manner.
• Strong computer skills with skill in using computerized health information management system.
• Excellent communication, interpersonal and customer service skills with the ability to establish/maintain effective working relationships with patients, clinical staff and the public.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality.
