Job Description |
The purpose of the Network Security Engineer position is to safeguard the campus network structure by implementing and maintaining cybersecurity measures and facilitating infrastructure design in line with core cybersecurity methods. This is accomplished by proactively identifying and mitigating security threats, ensuring network compliance, and collaborating with other IT professionals to maintain a secure and high-performing network and server environment. As the superintendent of cybersecurity for the campus, this position will also assist with the completion of security assessments, vulnerability scans, cybersecurity policies and procedures, documenting compliance with industry standards and regulations, and collaborating with all IT colleagues to ensure a holistic approach to network security. Other duties include completing network and cybersecurity requirements for special projects and assisting other colleagues as necessary.
Employees of Harford Community College, including instructors for online and virtual courses, must be residents of Maryland or the contiguous states of Delaware, Pennsylvania, Virginia, West Virginia or the District of Columbia; non-residents are expected to relocate to meet this requirement.

Required Experience |
A minimum of three years of relevant network security experience, including implementing and maintaining cybersecurity measures and designing infrastructure in alignment with core cybersecurity principles. |
Required Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities |
- Experience designing and configuring Next Generation Firewalls (NGFW).
- Proven expertise in designing and configuring a 1000+ node Local Area Network (LAN).
- Experience designing and configuring a 100+ node Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN).
- Ability to analyze and assess security risks and implement mitigations within network infrastructure.
- Knowledge of and participation in corporate cybersecurity planning and implementation.
- Capacity to collaborate with IT teams to align network security strategies with organizational goals.
- Strong problem-solving skills to quickly identify and resolve network vulnerabilities.
- Ability to document configurations, procedures, and security policies for compliance and audits.
- Effective communication skills to train and educate staff on network security best practices.

General Weekly Work Schedule |
Typical schedule would include an 8 hour shift Monday through Fridays during college business hours of 7:30AM to 5:30PM. Varying weekend and off hours work does occur occasionally.
