Overview

Hexagon Autonomy and Positioning (A&P) is looking for a Senior Director of Finance, Operations and R&D to play a pivotal role in shaping the future of our finance and corporate services. Your mission? The Finance Business Partner for Operations (Supply Chain) and R&D will play a crucial role in driving financial performance and providing strategic insights to support decision-making across various departments by partnering with the head of Operations for AS and the PMO leaders for A&P and Mining.

With a deep expertise in IAS 38 - Intangible Assets, the Finance Business Partner excels in the application of this standard to R&D activities, including the capitalization and amortization of development costs. They are adept at conducting impairment reviews of the R&D portfolio, ensuring compliance with IFRS and effective collaboration with product management teams. Additionally, they possess proficiency in the financial management of global supply chain operations, focusing on cost control, budgeting, and financial analysis. Leveraging their ability to develop and implement financial strategies, they optimize supply chain performance and efficiency.

The Location:Hexagon is a global company with offices around the world. This position is based in Calgary, Alberta or Tucson, Arizona.



Responsibilities

As our Senior Director of Finance, Operations and R&D, responsibilities include:

    Collaborate with department heads to develop and manage budgets, forecasts, and financial plans aligned with Strategy.
  • Support the bi-annual MTFP strategy process.
  • Partner with cross-functional teams to provide financial insights and guidance on business strategies.
  • Conduct risk assessment and management activities, identifying potential financial risks and developing mitigation strategies.
  • Build a cash conversion and recurring revenue culture
  • Support the annual forecasting process by providing inputs, assumptions, and scenarios to the commercial teams on behalf of Supply Chain Operations & R&D.
  • Conduct financial modelling and scenario analysis to support decision making and business cases for the collection of manufacturing sites, such as new product launches, capital investments, cost reduction initiatives, and operational improvements.
  • Portfolio Balancing: - Expertise in managing a diverse portfolio of projects, ensuring an optimal mix of high-risk, high-reward, and low-risk, steady-return initiatives.
  • Conducts regular portfolio reviews to assess project performance, reallocate resources, and make informed decisions about project continuation or termination.
  • Strategic Resource Allocation: Demonstrates the ability to allocate financial and operational resources effectively across various R&D and supply chain projects.
  • Prioritizes initiatives based on strategic importance, potential ROI, and alignment with business objectives. Balances short-term and long-term investments to ensure sustainable growth and innovation.
  • Promotes strategic thinking with the ability to foresee opportunities for change to make improvements to portfolio reporting.
  • Provide financial guidance and advice to the site managers and the regional finance manager on strategic and operational issues, such as pricing, cost management, profitability, and risk management.
  • Inventory Valuation and aging management
  • Gross Margin by product family analysis and performance measurement (volume, mix, standard to variable cost)
  • Manage the Standard costing and variance process introducing a standard operating model across the organization
  • Overall equipment effectiveness (OEE): the productivity and efficiency of the equipment and machinery used in the manufacturing process, by calculating the ratio of actual output to the maximum possible output.
  • Quality rate: the percentage of products that meet the quality standards and specifications, and do not require rework or scrap.
  • On-time delivery (OTD): This measures the percentage of orders that are delivered to the customers on or before the agreed date, and do not incur any penalties or customer dissatisfaction.
  • Lead the R&D finance practice, evaluate the accuracy, completeness, and compliance of the R&D portfolio, focusing on project IDs, business cases, current spending, capitalized items, associated impairments, relevant accounting policies, and methods for calculating rates and conditions for external spend.
  • Risk Management: Proficient in identifying, assessing, and mitigating financial risks related to R&D and supply chain operations.
  • Ensures compliance with financial regulations and standards, minimizing potential risks to the organization.
  • Ensure compliance with financial regulations and internal policies and monitor changes in regulatory requirements. * Champion internal controls as per Key Control area.
  • In concert with legal - ensure compliance to sales order contract risk tolerances, anti-competition constraints, fraud and bribery controls and gift and hospitality policies.
  • In concert with Export Control - uphold necessary controls and boundaries as required for controlled goods.
  • In concert with Credit Control - uphold the credit risk tolerances, activity work to improve aged receivables.
  • Champion cybers and physical security, data privacy, data governance, compliance
  • Work with Finance, HR, Data, Legal, Marketing, and IT centers of excellence to enable end-to-end harmonization of business processes in line with the divisional strategy.
  • Provide recommendations for process improvements and efficiencies to enhance financial performance.
  • Environment, Sustainability and Governance (ESG) as required.
  • M&A Pre closing and post close follow up aligned with PMI practices.
  • Transformational projects across Corporate Services as needed
  • Skill Development: build programs to encourage continuous learning and skill enhancement. Training programs, certifications, and mentorship.
  • Talent Acquisition: build corporate services processes that attract top talent who share our vision. Recruit individuals with diverse backgrounds and expertise.
  • Succession Planning: Identify high-potential employees and groom them for leadership roles. Build a robust bench strength for all corporate services functions.


Qualifications

Must-Have:

  • Bachelor's degree in finance, Accounting, or a related field, CPA / CA preferred, MBA or similar
  • Proven track record of leading and managing finance teams across multiple regions and cultures.
  • Ability to inspire, mentor, and develop high-performing teams in a global environment.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and relationship-building skills are vital
  • have a track record of successfully driving change, optimizing processes, and achieving business outcomes.
  • ability to build compelling and easy to understand stories in terms of performance, strategy and outlook. Advanced desktop publishing skills such as PPT, Canva, Tableau required.
  • Deep understanding of IAS 38 and its application to R&D activities, including capitalization and amortization of development costs.
  • Ability to conduct Impairment reviews of the R&D portfolio of assets, ensuring collaboration with product management teams and in compliance with IFRS.
  • Experience in managing and reporting intangible assets, ensuring compliance with IFRS and relevant regulations
  • Proficient in financial management of global supply chain operations, including cost control, budgeting, and financial analysis
  • Ability to develop and implement financial strategies that optimize supply chain performance and efficiency.

Key Success Factors:

  • The ideal candidate should have a strong strategic mindset, capable of envisioning the future landscape of autonomous solutions. They must be able to define and communicate a clear vision for the division's growth and transformation.
  • While not necessarily an engineer, the FBP should grasp the technical aspects of autonomous solutionsSOFT SKILLS AND TRAITS.
