Uafs.edu Summary of Job Duties:The primary duty of the Director of Web Strategy and Development is to manage and lead Web Strategy and Development and provide system-wide leadership in planning, optimizing, and directing the design, functionality, and security of the University's website. The position oversees the coordinated development, communication, and implementation of web projects, policies, and procedures and the accessibility of the University's website for all users.

The Director of Web Strategy and Development works to ensure the website is optimized for student recruitment and that analytics and web page destinations are in place to measure organic and paid marketing efforts. The Director of Web Strategy and Development also ensures guidance and training are delivered to content editors and collaborates with various units and groups to audit website performance and provide guidance and consulting services as needed. This position reports to the Assistant Vice Chancellor for Marketing and supervises a full-time staff person. Qualifications:

Required Education and/or Work Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in information technology, web design, digital media, marketing communications, or a related field. Must provide portfolio or examples of web design work.
  • At least one year of directly related experience
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered

Preferred Education and/or Work Experience:

  • Master's Degree
  • 2+ years related experience in managing a small web team
  • 2+ years' experience overseeing/building scalable, consumer-facing, enterprise-class web applications
  • 2+ years' experience developing within a CMS (ModernCampus preferred)

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assume responsibility for the UAFS inter-and-intranet websites by overseeing the primary website's planning, analysis, design, implementation, and maintenance and coordinating the information architecture, overall design, and site useability.
  • Ensure the Web Strategy and Development supports UAFS's web-related needs by preparing long-range and short-term goals and objectives; establishing priorities to meet goals and objectives; managing personnel, budgetary, and technology resources for effective web services; advising and consulting with campus departments and offices about web issues and concerns; and evaluating the unit's performance and progress toward accomplishment of goals and objectives.
  • Drive innovation by staying current with web development trends, developing professional contact with colleagues, attending professional development courses/conferences, and attending training and/or courses for the position.
  • Other duties as assigned.

This position is responsible for fostering a work environment that encourages knowledge of, respect for, and development of skills to engage with those of other cultures or backgrounds.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Proficiency with JavaScript/jQuery, HTML5, CSS, PHP/MySQL
  • Advanced understanding of ADA requirements for web accessibility, usability concepts, information architecture, browser/platform-specific functionality, and security issues
  • Proficiency in versioning control and code management software
  • Proficiency in responsive design, utilizing Bootstrap framework, and developing for mobile platforms
  • Proven leader and collaborator who works to unify teams across functions
  • Demonstrated experience developing within a CMS (Modern Campus is preferred)
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, including the ability to translate technical concepts to a non-technical audience
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to utilize data and insights to determine decisions
  • Ability to attend staff events as needed (including occasional nights and weekends)
  • Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment while maintaining accuracy of work.
  • Ability to work within a continuous improvement environment; able to receive feedback with a positive attitude and a commitment to personal accountability
  • Ability to monitor the work of others, mentor staff, and manage performance through regular feedback

Working Relationships:

Work within the Advancement division, which impacts and interacts with all departments on campus. This position will have frequent contact with faculty and staff.

Special Job Dimensions:

The regular work schedule is Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Work performed primarily in-person; however, remote work may be considered for highly qualified candidates. While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly exhibits digital dexterity when entering data into a computer. The employee frequently sits for extended periods and occasionally stands and walks. Must be able to visit departments and offices across campus to meet with clients and communicate well online and in person. When focusing on a computer screen, vision demands include close, relatively detailed vision. Employees regularly talk and listen. The employee occasionally lifts items over 10 pounds. Occasional travel, especially to work-related conferences, may be required.

Salary Information:

$63,000/year
