Church Publishing Incorporated (CPI) was founded in 1918 as the Church Hymnal Corporation, a nonprofit affiliate of the Church Pension Group. Today, CPI's professionals produce about 50 new books and resources each year, and manage a portfolio of more than 2,600 active products, many sold worldwide.

Church Publishing Incorporated is looking for a dynamic and experienced Marketing Manager- Trade for our trade imprint, Morehouse Publishing. Reporting to the AVP Marketing, the Marketing Manager- Trade will be responsible for creating and executing creative marketing and publicity campaigns for books on leadership, spirituality, social justice, inspiration, wellness, and self-help. They will thrive in a fast-paced environment and be able to develop effective marketing strategies, utilizing a variety of channels to drive book sales and increase brand awareness. They will have a strong knowledge of current trends in the industry.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
  • Develop comprehensive book marketing campaigns for 20-25 books a year, utilizing a variety of channels to increase awareness and drive book sales.
  • Execute marketing campaigns for frontlist and backlist titles across various channels (social media, email, website, and traditional media).
  • Develop promotional materials including social media content, book trailers, and newsletters that drive consumer sales.
  • Build relationships with key stakeholders such as authors, book reviewers, and sales teams.
  • Participate in trade and library conferences and seasonal sales presentations to the sales team.
  • Develop partnerships with bookstores, libraries, and other retail organizations.
  • Manage marketing budgets for each book project, ensuring that spending aligns with overall objectives.
  • Coordinate book signings, author tours, and speaking events
  • Work with the Associate Publicist to secure media coverage (print, online, and broadcast) and coordinate book signings, author tours, and speaking events. Work with outside publicists when necessary.
  • Participate in product development, packaging (i.e. cover design), and pricing decisions
  • Stay informed on current market trends to create new and innovate marketing strategies.
  • Effective performance of the essential functions of this position requires regular in-person, on-site interaction with colleagues, both for purposes of relationship building and meaningful collaboration.

  • The ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a team environment is essential.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
  • 4+ years of trade marketing experience in a book publishing house
  • Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Communications, English, Business, or a related field is preferred or a combination of education and experience will be considered. Interest in faith based publishing and social justice related topics is a plus.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Commuting to the office, on average, three days a week. Extensive use of a computer keyboard is a demand of the position to perform the essential functions of this job successfully. WORK ENVIRONMENT: Currently hybrid (two days working from home, three days working in a standard office environment). Salary Range: $72,000 - $90,000
