Special Programs Coordinator Requisition ID: 2025-8887 # of Openings: 1 Location: US-UT-Park City Category: Administrative/Clerical Position Type: Non-benefited (hourly) Part-Time Job Classification: Non-Benefited College: College of Agriculture & Applied Sc Department: Swaner EcoCenter Advertised Salary: $25.00 - $35.00 per Hour, Commensurate with experience Overview We are seeking a passionate and organized Special Programs Coordinator to lead, develop, and expand the Extension-Based Career Inspiration, Wellness & Ecological Belonging ("EBCI-WEB") Program, a new statewide initiative of Utah State University's Swaner Preserve & EcoCenter. The coordinator will be responsible for supporting program administration and facilitation, curriculum development and implementation, statewide program growth, and public outreach. A significant component of the program will focus on engaging youth with justice system involvement, with a goal of improving life outcomes. The successful candidate will be outgoing, engaging, and enthusiastic about helping improve the lives of community members by connecting them to nature, to wellness tools, and to career mentors. Building and maintaining strong professional relationships is essential, and the successful candidate must be adept at finding, engaging and stewarding local partners and experts from diverse backgrounds. Backgrounds in positive youth development, social work, health & wellness, and/or supporting at-risk youth are considered valuable. Familiarity with diverse populations and non-traditional educational paths will also be an asset. This is a part-time, non-benefited, position with approximately 29 hours of work per week. Work week schedule is flexible with a combination of remote and in office work. Occasional overnight and weekend work with statewide travel will be required based upon EBCI-WEB Program scheduling and events. Applications will be reviewed starting on March 27. Responsibilities Program Coordination & Administration: Oversee the planning, implementation, and evaluation of the new EBCI-WEB Program. Develop and update program curriculum, ensuring alignment with scientific research and best practices. Manage program logistics, including scheduling programming, securing locations, and coordinating with partner organizations. Build relationships with relevant organizations, government agencies, and community groups. Track necessary certifications and risk-management tasks. Identify and pursue grant opportunities, foundation funding, and sponsorships to support program growth and sustainability. Maintain records, budgets, and grant reporting requirements. Education & Outreach: Design and lead engaging program activities, field experiences, and training sessions for participants. Collaborate with experts, educators, and agencies to enhance program content. Develop educational materials, presentations, and online resources. Organize networking events, continuing education opportunities, and service projects for EBCI-WEB partners and participants. Promote the program through social media, newsletters, and community events. Qualifications Minimum Qualifications: Bachelors Degree OR equivalent experience in youth development, social work, health & wellness, juvenile justice, ecology, education, or a related field. Experience in program management, youth engagement, and varied outdoor skills and activities. Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills. Ability to work independently and collaboratively with diverse stakeholders. Comfortable leading outdoor field activities in various environmental conditions. Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Google Suite, and social media platforms. Preferred Qualifications: Experience working with at-risk populations and/or marginalized communities. Knowledge of and passion for Utah's diverse cultures and ecosystems. Fluency in a second language, especially Spanish, Ute, Shoshoni, or Din bizaad. Familiarity with grant writing, and/or program evaluation. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Passionate about EBCI-WEB and Swaner's mission. Incumbents may be in both indoor and outdoor environments. Indoors, in an office space, event space, or public space are protected from weather conditions, but not necessarily from temperature changes. Incumbents may nearly continuously sit and often use repetitive hand motion (such as typing). Outdoors, incumbents may not be protected from weather conditions and may be exposed to extreme heat and extreme cold. Additionally, indoor or outdoor work environments may include being confined or in narrow spaces for periods of time. The incumbent may also be exposed to loud noises or vibrations from equipment, and conditions that may affect the respiratory system, such as fumes, odors, dusts, mists, gases, and poor ventilation. Bending, crawling, and crouching may be required. Incumbents may be required to lift, push, and/or pull objects up to 50 pounds and be required to walk and/or stand for long periods of time. University Highlights About the EBCI-WEB Program and Swaner Preserve & EcoCenter: The EBCI-WEB (Extension-Based Career Inspiration, Wellbeing & Ecological Belonging) Program is a new initiative of Utah State University Extension's Swaner Preserve & EcoCenter. This collaborative, evidence-based program takes a three-part approach to improving the lives of community members: 1. Career Inspiration: Exposing program participants to diverse career mentors and career opportunities, sparking awareness and excitement for professional life paths and community resources. 2. Wellbeing: Providing hands-on, interactive experience and building familiarity with evidence-based wellness tools, from mindfulness to healthy communication to goal-setting, that program participants can apply in their daily lives. 3: Ecological Belonging: Empowering program participants to develop a personal relationship with nature and the outdoors, building comfort and familiarity and a variety of low-barrier outdoor activities. EBCI-WEB is an "Extension-Based" program, meaning that it relies significantly on health & wellness, youth programming, and natural resources tools and expertise traditionally housed within university extension programs. The program is also collaborative and localized, requiring strong ongoing relationships with partner organizations and the participation of individual community members. Building upon evidence-based methods, and adaptation of the program based on ongoing impact evaluation, are also essential elements. In 2025, EBCI-WEB will focus on a pilot program in Summit County, Utah, with the intention of future statewide expansion. The 2025 pilot will focus on working with justice-system involved youth from the Wasatch Front and Wasatch Back. The EBCI-WEB program is based out of the USU Swaner Preserve & EcoCenter located near Park City, UT, and the Special Programs Coordinator will actively collaborate with and receive support from the organization's Executive Director and staff. Swaner Preserve and EcoCenter ("Swaner"), a unique center operated by Utah State University Extension, has a mission to preserve the land and the human connection to the natural landscape, educate the local and broader communities about the value of nature, and nurture both ecosystems and the people connected with them. Swaner conducts diverse programming on its 1,200 acre nature preserve and in its 10,000 square foot LEED Platinum EcoCenter building with interactive exhibits about the surrounding environment.
