We foster an inclusive culture and are looking for diverse, talented people to join Alcon and we are looking for a Software Architect Requirements Engineer at our R&D location in Lake Forest, CA.

The SW Architect Requirements Engineer is responsible for leading the software engineering efforts to develop software, services, and solutions for Alcon Interoperability Program.

The role is responsible to drive product software requirements, general architecture, and project timeline by close collaboration with product owners and requirement engineers.

The SW Architect Requirements Engineer is expected to also work closely with various Product R&D teams, and workstream and functional owners - Cybersecurity, UX, Intelligent Services, etc - to align the product needs, requirements, architecture and design with the broader company strategy.

In this role, a typical day will include:

  • Collaborate with stakeholders to understand and address their needs and requirements.

  • Identify and address any technical risks or challenges.

  • Create and maintain documentation for the software architecture.

  • Reviews software system designs, change specifications, and plans against contractual and/or process requirements. Reviews include applicable specifications, materials, tools, techniques, and methodologies.

  • Provides or directs verification and validation of software system requirements, traceability, and testability.

  • Makes recommendations concerning acquisition and use of new technological equipment and materials.

  • May participate in intellectual property evaluations and development of patent applications

  • Champion Interoperability program with product teams

  • Align with Interop Core team on program tracking and progress

  • Provide technical leadership and guidance to software development teams.

Experience:

  • 7+ years software development experience

  • 2+ years software engineering technical leadership experience

  • Degree in computer science, software engineering, or a related field.

  • Extensive experience in software development, including hands-on experience with various programming languages, frameworks, and tools.

  • Strong knowledge of software architecture principles, patterns, and best practices.

  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.

  • Problem solving.

  • Knowledge of Agile and DevOps.

  • Fluent language skills in English

  • Experience in regulated software development, medical, automotive, aerospace, or similar

  • Familiarity with medical software domain

  • Experience with embedded, desktop and cloud infrastructure and technologies

What You'll Bring to Alcon:

  • Bachelor's Degree or Equivalent years of directly related experience (or high school +13 yrs; Assoc.+9 yrs; M.S.+2 yrs; PhD+0 yrs)

  • The ability to fluently read, write, understand, and communicate in English

  • 5 Years of Relevant Experience
