Consider a career with one of the nation's largest Universities! The Office of Information Technology (OIT) develops and maintains mission-critical applications for the University of Minnesota. The Data Engineer will be responsible for designing, building, implementing and maintaining data processing channels for data extraction, transformation, and loading to connect large data sets from a variety of sources. This individual will work with the University's Data Platform team utilizing Oracle GoldenGate, Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI), Microsoft Azure and Databricks to orchestrate data flow from the University's ERP (PeopleSoft) to Databricks allowing users to consume and analyze data more efficiently. Additionally, they will prepare and manipulate data using best practices tools, languages, data processing frameworks, and databases. The ideal candidate will have experience in Higher Education and be excited by the prospect of assisting with the implementation of the University's data architecture to support our next generation of products and data initiatives.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Support and leverage change data capture techniques on the PeopleSoft Oracle database to feed ERP data into downstream systems.
  • Create Data Pipelines into Databricks on the Microsoft Azure cloud platform.
  • Model system agnostic data structures which are abstracted away from PeopleSoft specific source data structures.
  • Implement data structures (SQL and no-SQL) on Oracle and Microsoft Azure data platforms.
  • Implement and maintain data security activities including role, account, and secret management as well as regular access review.
  • Monitor and maintain production integrations and data flows.
  • Mentor members of the University, as necessary, coaching on industry best practices for Databricks and working on all phases of the application development lifecycle.
  • Provide Subject Matter Expertise on Change Data Capture and Databricks implementation practices.
Qualifications

Required qualifications:

  • BA/BS plus at least 2 years of experience, or Master's degree.
  • Experience with Cloud Infrastructure
  • Experience with Cloud Computing/Cloud Storage
  • Demonstrated experience building and optimizing data pipelines, architectures, and data sets.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with Microsoft Azure and Databricks
  • Familiarity with the Higher Education environment
  • Working knowledge of message queuing, stream processing, and highly scalable 'big data' data stores.
  • Experience with relational SQL and NoSQL databases, including Postgres and Cassandra.
  • Experience with data pipeline and workflow management tools.
  • Experience with object-oriented/object function scripting languages.
  • Experience working in an Agile development environment and following Scrum methodologies.
  • Working SQL knowledge and experience working with relational databases, query authoring (SQL) as well as working familiarity with a variety of databases.
Pay and Benefits

Pay Range: $102,000 - $112,000; depending on education/qualifications/experience

Time Appointment: 75%-100% Appointment
