About the Job
Teamster priority period runs from 2/19/2025 - 12/26/2025 Position Description: This position performs project custodial work and provides relief by filling in for custodial positions that are open due to absenteeism or vacancy.
Responsibilities: Project tasks, which will be the primary work to be performed, include: carpet cleaning using a pre-spray, agitate and extraction method or an encapsulation method, machine scrubbing or stripping of hard floors, applying floor finish, honing and polishing hard floors, pressure washing grouted surfaces, washing walls, squeegeeing glass, detail cleaning areas due to construction, staff moves, or during breaks, and there is a possibility of moving furniture or equipment.
Routine tasks performed during relief coverage generally include: removing waste and recycle, dusting surfaces high to low, wiping surfaces with a special emphasis on touch points, removing wall marks, washing white and black boards, cleaning glass, vacuuming and removing spots on carpet, dust mopping or sweeping, wet mopping or auto-scrubbing, arranging furniture, stocking dispensers (paper towels, hand soap, sanitizer, disinfecting wipers), full cleaning and stocking restrooms, replacing burnt out lamps, maintaining exterior entrance areas - shoveling and deicing, and sweeping or blowing. Also, cleanup of spills such as non-hazardous chemicals, blood, vomit, feces, urine, or other bodily fluids. Proper PPE and training provided.
You may be required to safely use a ladder up to 12 feet tall (although normally they are 6-8 feet tall).
Typical area types being serviced may include: entrances, lobbies, corridors, stairs, elevators, restrooms, showers, locker rooms, fitness areas, auditoriums, classrooms, labs, studios, shops, offices, meeting rooms, break rooms, coffee stations, loading docks, storage spaces, etc.
Tools may include: restroom cart, trash collection barrels and carts, flat mop system, microfiber pad system, microfiber duster system, microfiber cleaning cloths, scrubbing pads, various brushes, dustmops and brooms, etc. Proper PPE.
Equipment may include: backpack vacuum, space sweeper/vacuum, auto-scrubber, burnisher, carpet extractor, floor machine (buffer/swing machine), pressure washer, electrostatic sprayer, etc.
All responsibilities, and use of tools and equipment, named above are essential functions of this position.
This job may be designated as essential.

Work Environment The work is performed within, and just outside the entrances of, University buildings.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications Demonstrated ability to meet the physical requirements as determined through an on-site job analysis. Generally the heaviest lift and carry (at your side) is a 5 gallon container (about 40 lbs). Ability to verbally communicate in, and comprehend, spoken English. Ability to read and write competently in English for the purpose of time entry, time off requests, task assignments, schedules, and training. Training may include: job knowledge and task performance, work site and job task safety, right to know product safety, sexual harassment prevention, campus security, electronic data security, confidential information security, asbestos awareness, blood borne pathogens, radiation safety, HIPAA laws, etc.
Essential Qualification Regular attendance is an essential qualification for this position.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Ability to learn tasks and retain the knowledge for proper performance on a routine basis. Ability to work with, and get along with, a diverse group of people in a team structured environment. Ability to maintain a positive attitude and to care about the results of your work. Ability to maintain professional behavior as you may be working around staff and students.
Pay and Benefits
