Shared Services: Compliance (Full-Time, Day Shift) - Job Summary: The Compliance Specialist is primarily responsible for receiving and investigating reports of privacy and security violations, inquiries, complaints and concerns, ensuring these are handled in a timely manner. Provides training and education to employees regarding patient privacy and security; develops action plans for investigative cases and provides written communication and reports to all appropriate parties; conducts employee interviews, medical record reviews and policy and procedure reviews, as well as system audits; initiates corrective action to ensure resolution of problem areas identified during internal investigations or supplemental auditing and monitoring activities. Performs other duties as needed.
Education and Experience: Bachelor's Degree required. Minimum three years of experience handling complaints or internal investigations in healthcare setting with extensive patient/client correspondence required.
Knowledge and Skills: Demonstrated investigational, analytical and writing skills. Demonstrated flexibility in project and initiative management, ensuring the timely completion of required work in conjunction with constantly moving deadlines and multiple priorities. Able to read; write legibly; speak in English with professional quality; use computer, printer, and software programs necessary to the position (e.g., Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint). Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal skills. Able to prepare and deliver verbal and written presentations. Demonstrates diplomacy, tact, a professional demeanor and an ability to relate to people of diverse demographic backgrounds. Able to work independently and collaboratively with others. Committed to continuous quality improvement in systems, processes and performance; consistently exercises a learning attitude and approach to all duties. Able to work calmly and respond courteously when under pressure. Able to demonstrate excellent problem solving and reasoning skills; trending and data analysis; critical thinking; attention to detail; recall information with accuracy; work independently with minimal supervision. Able to prepare written communications that are thorough, coherent and concise; maintain current knowledge of applicable state and federal regulations, as well as industry best practices through independent research and continuing education; handle pressure, deadlines, and interruptions. Able to distinguish colors as necessary; hear sufficiently for general conversation in person and on the telephone, and identify and distinguish various sounds associated with the workplace; see adequately to read computer screens, and written documents necessary to the position. Extensive knowledge of regulations promulgated under the Health Insurance and Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (*HIPAA*) required.
Licensures and Certifications: Certified in Healthcare Privacy (CHP), Certified in Healthcare Security (CHS), Certified in Healthcare Privacy Security (CHPS) or Certified Information Privacy Professional (CIPP) or Project Management certification required within one year of hire.
