JOB FUNCTION / SUMMARY:

The Merchant Services Specialist is responsible for selling a full suite of merchant products and value-added services to a diverse range of customers, providing payment processing solutions, and supporting the sales channel within an assigned territory. The Sales Specialist will engage in prospecting new opportunities and collaborate with banking partners and various stakeholders to deliver effective solutions. The position will also be responsible for retaining clients by building relationships and growing portfolios through relationship management and cross consulting to all areas of the bank.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Actively markets and sells merchant solutions and services while maintaining established individual production levels with mid-to-long term results. Generates leads and calls on perspective business clients; partners with Financial Centers and bankers to generate cross-sell opportunities. Make independent decisions that impact the segment being supported.
  • Ensure compliance with federal regulations on all product documentation. Keeps current on product knowledge, merchant risk, competition, and on compliance issues related to merchant solutions and products. Stay abreast of applicable products and pricing including new trends and developments in the industry.
  • Mentors and educates merchant services team members on analyzing statements, overcoming objections, competitive intelligence, enhanced research and software integration, conducts sales meetings and training sessions.
  • Provides support for escalations in Merchant Services.
  • Work with clients with revenue over $100,000 in annual payment card sales and complex merchant accounts from pre-sale to post-sale primarily in a face-to-face environment. Develop comprehensive presentation materials, participates in departmental process improvement committees and presents regularly to lines of business to educate on the value of merchant services. Accountable for complex merchant accounts from pre-sale to post-sale with consistent revenue, deal count and client engagement counts.
  • Partners with assigned business or commercial bankers and Business Financial Center managers to develop proposals for fee income products and services and make presentations regarding such to perspective business clients.
  • Answer questions and resolves problems for clients concerning all services provided by the Bank. Identifies the problem, collects data, secures answers and reports results to the inquiring party and with the Supervisor, Operations and Service or other Bank associates as necessary.
  • Represents the Bank in the community; develops and promotes additional business by attending and participating in civic meetings and gatherings, volunteer for activities, etc.
  • Develops and executes a strategy for selling merchant solutions and services in conjunction with referral partners.
  • Identify new prospects and revenue opportunities using referrals generated from business partners lead lists generated for assigned market, referrals from current merchants, and self-sourcing.
  • Establish relationships with key internal business partners (e.g. Treasury Management, Commercial, Retail, etc.) and provides an overview of Merchant Solutions, current partners, support options, cross-sell abilities, and partnership needs.
  • Exhibit an in-depth expertise of Merchant Solutions, value added services, pricing models, third-party vendors and software/gateway integrations.
  • Respond promptly to prospect inquiries and requests and prepare proposals, letters, and presentations to merchant prospects as needed.
  • Provide regular updates and reports concerning prospect status, revenue and deal count achievement, partnership successes with various segment partners, and campaign successes using Salesforce.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

May directly supervise and carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws; Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, firing and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

MINIMUM REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & KNOWLEDGE:

  • High school diploma or GED required; Bachelor's degree in business or related field preferred.
  • 7+ years of sales experience in a financial services commission or incentive-based role.
  • Exceptional communication skills with superior sales, business development, partnerships, and negotiation skills.
  • Certified Payment Professional Designation.
  • Proficient in computer-based sales software and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Consistent goal and deal count achievement month-over-month and year-over-year with a preference of at least $300,000 in revenue on an annual basis.

ESSENTIAL MENTAL & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to travel if required to perform the essential job functions.
  • Ability to work under stress and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to operate related equipment to perform the essential job functions.
  • Ability to read and interpret a document if required to perform the essential job functions.
  • Ability to lift/move/carry approximately 10 pounds if required to perform the essential job functions. If the employee is unable to lift/move/carry this weight and can be accommodated without causing the department/division an "undue hardship" then the employee must be accommodated; hence omitting lifting/moving/carrying as a physical requirement.
