Intern - Healthcare Supply Chain

As a Summer Intern in Healthcare Supply Chain, you will gain hands-on experience in the management and operations of a healthcare supply chain, offering a well-rounded introduction to this critical field. Under the guidance of experienced managers, you will be exposed to various aspects of supply chain management, including the flow of goods, resources, and information required to support hospital operations and meet performance goals. You will assist with operational and cost improvements in the areas of operative services, procurement, and capital purchases. In addition, you will be involved in supporting the efficient procurement of supplies, capital, customer service, staff development, and budget forecasting. This internship will provide valuable exposure to both the operational and strategic sides of healthcare supply chain management, offering an opportunity to develop key skills and knowledge for a future career in the industry.

This internship position is a time-limited, temporary position with a start date of June 2, 2025. The total number of hours that an intern can work during this timeframe is 250 hours.

Interns hired for the summer cohort will be enrolled in Campus Greensboro's Summer Fellows Program. This is an in-person, professional development training program sponsored by Cone Health.

To be considered, candidates must meet at least one of the below criteria:

  1. Local College Students: Attendees of local institutions including University of North Carolina at Greensboro, Guilford College, Greensboro College, Guilford Technical Community College, Bennett College, Elon University and School of Law, North Carolina A&T State University.
  2. Guilford County High School Graduates: Those who graduated from Guilford County high schools and are now furthering their education outside of Greensboro.
  3. First Generation College Students: Students who are the first in their families to attend any college or university.

  • Assists in the efficient and timely procurement of supplies and capital across the healthcare system.
  • Supports inventory management and monitors supply levels to ensure operational efficiency and successful patient visits.
  • Assists in monitoring supplier performance, tracking operational metrics, and helping identify any gaps in meeting hospital demands.
  • Participates in sourcing and developing negotiation strategies to meet business objectives and foster strong supplier relationships.
  • Aids in analyzing and improving forecasting accuracy, ensuring that the supply chain meets hospital needs while minimizing waste and shortages.
  • Coordinates with the team to track and support annual capital equipment purchases, as well as assists in the identification and removal of obsolete capital equipment to reduce costs.
  • Supports contract negotiation and vendor management by assisting in the facilitation of agreements between suppliers and internal departments.
  • Provides general support to the supply chain team, contributing to day-to-day operations and learning about different aspects of the supply chain process.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the supply chain team to support ongoing operational initiatives.
