Summary: The Manager - Safety will be responsible for leading the safety and emergency response team at Nederland Terminal and providing safety resource support to all terminals that fall under the Nederland operations team. The position will also be responsible for supporting contractors, operations, engineering, and maintenance employees to ensure health and safety compliance is met across the terminal Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide leadership and expertise in developing and implementing company safety program
- Training and motivation of company personnel to achieve superior safety performance and promoting an active culture of continuous improvement
- Spearhead various programs to prevent incidents such as PPE, Gas Monitors, MOCs, Job Planning, Work Permits, LOTO, SOPs, and Site-Specific Procedures
- Empower all employees and contractors with Stop Work authority
- Performing equipment, facility, and work-in-progress inspections
- Injury and accident investigations including identifying, developing, and implementing preventative measures
- Conducting, assisting, and/or coordinating in-house inspections, third party safety audits, and/or safety and environmental audits for the Division locations.
- Requires a sincere and genuine interest in personal safety and continuous safety performance improvement of the organization.
- Requires travel to company locations and work project locations to carry out job responsibilities.
- Ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks and projects concurrently and adjust to changing priorities
Required Skills (External) Education and/or Experience, Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential job duty satisfactorily. The requirements for this position are listed below:
- Bachelor's degree in Safety Management, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental or Biological Science or additional equivalent experience and qualifications, preferred but not required
- 8+ years of relevant work experience
- Strong communications skills (verbal and written), understand the Logistics business, and possess technical safety, health and environmental skills.
- Ability to design and present training programs.
- Proficiency in MS Office computer applications.
- Strong leadership, interpersonal and conflict resolution skills.
- Ability to act decisively under pressure and exercise excellent judgment.
- Valid driver's license required.
- 5 - 10 years' overall field safety experience, highly preferred.
Working Conditions:
- Lifting up to 50 lbs occasionally.
- Driving, walking, standing frequently.
- Exposure to adverse weather, cramped conditions and some heavy lifting
Visits to industrial/manufacturing settings, which may include exposure to various materials and chemicals, as well as extreme temperature conditions and loud machinery, and require appropriate personal protective equipment. - Occasional overnight travel may be required.
