Summary

Spire is seeking an LNG Technician trainee. The applicant will be responsible for 24/7 operation of a liquefied natural gas (LNG) facility including LNG process and vaporization systems, infrastructure, power/steam generation, controls, emergency response, security, maintenance, and custodial care. Understands and follows LNG facility operating procedures, safe handling practices, equipment, maintenance protocols, governmental regulations, technical and safety codes, standards and reporting requirements. In-depth knowledge of the physical properties of LNG, surroundings, and is able to identify relevant equipment.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Operate and maintain liquefaction process to provide storage and transfer of liquid natural gas.
  • Operate and maintain vaporization equipment to provide transfer and send out of natural gas vapor.
  • Operate and maintain off-site Satellite LNG Facilities at Double Springs and East Lauderdale
  • Operate and maintain Portable LNG Vaporizer at onsite and offsite locations as needed
  • Monitor transportation and storage of flammable and other potentially dangerous products to ensure that safety guidelines are followed. Monitor equipment operation to ensure proper functioning.
  • Control operation of compressors, scrubbers, evaporators, and refrigeration equipment to liquefy, compress, or regasify natural gas. Operate natural gas equipment. Start up and shut down equipment.
  • Monitor equipment functioning, observe temperature, level, and flow, perform regular equipment checks to ensure all equipment is operating as it should.
  • Control equipment to regulate flow and pressure of gas to feedlines of boilers, heaters, and related steam-generating and heating equipment.

Essential Characteristics and Competencies

  • Must complete initial and recurring operator certification as required by DOT
  • Must possess a valid driver's license and operate a company vehicle.
  • Hazardous Material - Tanker CDL license. Preferred
  • All terrain forklift certification

Supervisory Responsibilities

Requires work on all shifts as sole person responsible for entire facility

Required Education (certifications, licenses)

  • High School diploma or GED
  • Education in mechanical, electrical, refrigeration, and/or cryogenics, or previous documented experience preferred. Job requires the ability to understand chemical properties, physics, DOT and NFPA codes, comprehension of engineering drawings for electrical, piping, control loops.

Required knowledge, skill and abilities

  • Must be able to climb ladders, platforms, stairs, working well above grade
  • Must be able to perform duties on storage tanks in excess of 100 feet as well as operating personnel lifts to those heights.
  • Must be able to perform duties in confined spaces
  • Requires work outdoors, in all types of weather, year-round.
  • Involves work on and around heavy-duty compression equipment
  • Requires exposure and handling of cryogenic liquids
  • Requires exposure and handling of flammable refrigerants and gases
  • Requires stamina and acute maneuverability
  • Requires ability to lift and carry loads in excess of 20 pounds
  • Requires use of all type hand tools (wrenches, hammers, drills, saws, etc)

Physical demands, environment and schedule

  • All duties of this position are required within an active natural gas storage facility, in a known hazardous environment due to exposures with flammable liquids and vapors and multiple pressures, high voltage electrical circuits, rotating equipment, work at high elevations, confined spaces.
  • Requires work alone 24/7
  • Requires 24 hr on-call availability
  • Requires work on 24-hour rotating shifts, to include nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Requires flexibility in scheduling work hours due to system demands and personnel availability
  • Requires annual physical
  • Requires certification in first aid, CPR
  • Requires participation in drug testing program
