Job Summary

IFF is seeking a Computational Biologist with experience in microbial genomics or commensal ecology to join our Health Bioinformatics R&D team. As a successful candidate, you will be part of a diverse and international team of domain experts and engineers that work towards the common goal of delivering novel products and real value for our customers.

Candidates should be self-motivated, thrive in a research team environment, and committed to using biotechnology for commercial and societal impact.

Job Requirements:

  • Independently develops and implements comparative genomics approaches to support new and existing products offerings
  • Processes raw genomic data generated with diverse NGS technologies
  • Supports multiple projects by providing genomics and bioinformatics expertise
  • Prepares results for presentation, inclusion in technical reports, and for publication in peer-reviewed scientific journals.
  • Maintains thorough documentation of experimental plans, process workflows, and results.
  • Keep up to date on new trends, technical developments and skills by monitoring the scientific and trade literature, competitors' activities, new methods and processes for food ingredients in associated areas though continuing education and/or technical seminars.

Required Qualifications:

  • PhD or masters in Computational Biology, Bioinformatics, Data Science, Microbial Genetics or related field.
  • Proficiency in UNIX/Linux development environment and programming languages (preferably Python).
  • Experience with common current bioinformatics tools to perform prokaryotic genomics assemblies, annotations and alignments.
  • Familiarity with large public and private sequence databases (e.g. KEGG, BioCyc,...).
  • Demonstrated ability to independently design, manage, and perform multi-task projects to a successful result.
  • Strong publication record.

Desired Experiences:

  • Experience in design, maintenance, and documentation of computational infrastructure for large-scale omics data management and analysis desired but not necessary.
  • Experience using state-of-the-art data-driven approaches to link metabolic and phenotypic data to genotypes.
  • Aids in constructing metabolic networks of probiotics and microbiomes and predictive metabolic models based on metabolic and genomic data.
  • Experience with the biology of commensal bacteria and commensal ecology and/or their health applications
