- Residency Requirement: Selected candidate must live no more than 30-45 minutes fromthe assigned Resource Center in Nashville, TN

This position is responsible for all duties associated with and related to the safe, efficient and cost-effective installation and maintenance of natural gas facilities and appurtenances on both transmission and distribution natural gas systems per 49CFR Part 192 and Piedmont Natural Gas policies and procedures.

Responsibilities & Duties:

  • Inspect and oversee contract and or company crews in the installation of pipeline facilities to ensure that PNG safety policies and procedures are followed

  • Inspect and oversee contract and or company crews in the installation of pipeline facilities to ensure that procedures and materials comply with plans and specifications

  • Ensure contract documents represented by working drawings and specifications are properly executed by the contractors

  • Interpret drawings and specifications for contractor and discuss deviations from specified construction procedures to ensure compliance with regulations governing construction

  • Measure distances to verify accuracy of dimensions of structural installations and layouts

  • Examine quality of installations for conformity to standards

  • Perform work coordination duties such as schedule coordination, inspections of "as built", and inspection of contractor pay sheets for multiple company and contract crews

  • Maintain log of construction and inspection activities (via Inspection SharePoint site) and compare progress reports

  • When called for, perform role of the "Competent Person" on a company crew

  • Perform locate duties to determine location of existing gas facilities

  • Complete work documentation/records timely

  • Assist with coordination of pipeline emergencies

  • Provide zone and enterprise support as needed

  • Assist crews as needed

  • Perform other duties as assigned

Basic/Required Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or GED

  • Demonstrated mechanical aptitude, advanced knowledge and use of construction tools and heavy equipment.

  • Previous experience working with installation and maintenance of gas pipelines.

  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license

Desired Qualifications:

  • Two years technical school education or the equivalent job-related knowledge

  • Previous experience with supervision and or completion of supervisory training classes/certifications

  • Computer knowledge working in a Windows environment.

  • Demonstrated effective communication, verbal and written, and interpersonal skills and safety awareness.

Physical Requirements:

  • This position contains a weight restriction of 275 pounds as an essential function of the job. The purpose of this restriction is to ensure that all weight-rated equipment is used in an appropriate and safe manner within maximum allowed weight loading.

  • Must work outdoors in adverse weather conditions; lifting up to 75 lbs.; frequent walking, reaching, pushing, pulling, bending, squatting, stooping, crawling, standing, digging, climbing; works on uneven terrain, many times with heavy vegetation; manual dexterity (hand/eye coordination); keen eyesight; good hearing; good sense of smell; comes in frequent contact with insects and animals.

Working Conditions:

  • Field Mobility Classification - Work will be performed in various field locations, as needed, after the onboarding period. However, field employees are required to live within a reasonable daily commute to their assigned work location.

  • Weekend and evening work as required. Subject to extended working hours and must be available for call-out and emergency response. Some rotating shifts. Some routine travel to areas outside the Resource Center or Zone
